Today, on 8 March, International Women’s Day, women across the world are going on a social strike.
The Women’s Strike is about refusing all the work that women do – whether paid work in offices and factories, or unpaid domestic work in homes, communities, and bedrooms.
At Casco Art Institute: Working for the Commons, we acknowledge the plea of all those calling for gender equality, reproductive health access, equal pay, labor rights and an end to gender violence. We support the strike against the perpetual marginalization of women of color, migrants, and trans, intersex and non-binary folk.
In solidarity, today we will not engage with e-mail correspondence or social media, as these activities increasingly occupy a large part of our work but are often not valorized as such.
Furthermore, we would like to express our solidarity with the waria (transgender women) community in Aceh, Indonesia, who have been struggling under intensifying social and political oppression.
Thank you for your understanding and support. We will get back to you soon.
