Scenes from the 2016 election. Two years later, I still remember how much of a roller coaster the day was. The excitement, the anger, the hope, and the heartbreak. As the watch parties wound down, people took to the streets; some to celebrate and some to protest. It set the stage for two years of some of the most aggressive and divisive politics I’ve ever seen. Tomorrow is a landmark election, that will once again set the tone of our country for years to come. Get out. Go vote. Make your voice heard. Shot #onassignment for the @nytimes

I don’t shoot weddings, but when the opportunity comes to photograph Captain Obvious officiating a marriage, you don’t say no. The day was an absolute blast, the couple loved it, and Captain Obvious was the life of the party. Shot for @cpbgroup for Hotels.com

Thirty years ago, Rocky Flats was a nuclear weapons production facility, producing the plutonium triggers that set off nuclear bombs. Today, the Rocky Flats National Wildlife Refuge surrounds the former production facility, concerning environmentalists who fear plutonium has poisoned groundwater for the people who live in the area, and those who will visit the park, just outside of Denver. The Cold War Horse (in photo #1), was built as a remembrance to those who worked at the plant. Shot for the @guardian

Greeley, Colorado is one of the fastest growing cities in America, thanks in large part to an oil boom bringing an influx of jobs and cash to the region. But as a rapidly expanding population confronts rapidly increasing oil production, citizens are pushing back against fracking operations throughout the state. A proposed ballot initiative would require all new wells be at least 2500 feet from all development, a move the oil industry sees as an effective ban on fracking in the state of Colorado. Environmentalists would view it as a win, while those in the industry caution that the ballot measure would do more harm than good. Head over to WSJ to read Rebecca Elliott’s story. Thanks to @stephaaronson for the assignment!

Recent work from Weld County, where America’s complex relationship with oil is once again front and center. Oil is booming, and so is Colorado’s population, and the two are becoming increasingly at odds. For those whose lives are built on oil, things are looking up. But for those who see new wells popping up in backyards and near elementary schools as a threat to their ways of life, the surge in drilling represents a new set of battles to fight. As Weld County Commissioner Barbara Kirkmeyer puts it, “If you don’t like it, you shouldn’t move in next to it.” But protestors at the site of a drilling operation less than 900 feet from Bella Romero Academy, an elementary school in Greeley, see the increased drilling as another example of big businesses forcing their way into vulnerable communities. Be sure to read the story by @fotojulie over at @nytimes

“My daughter’s friends used to say I looked like Jesus who was ready to kill somebody, and I used to be okay with that. But I realized I needed to make some changes, and get some help, and that’s what our whole organization is about.” Orin Vance of Ft. Collins, Colorado, shot for @theamericanlegion
I come from a family of combat veterans, not all of whom made it back home; and any chance to work with and tell the stories of the men & women who made those sacrifices is an honor. Huge thanks to @lucascarter and the American Legion for giving me another opportunity to tell those stories.

Congrats to the @nytimes and @washingtonpost for their Pulitzer Prize reporting on Russian interference in the 2016 election. It was a privilege to work alongside some of the reporters whose incredible work informed the nation of some of the biggest political stories of our time.

The students at Columbine High School weren't born when the massacre that took twelve lives at their school occurred 19 years ago. But yesterday they joined students from around the country in #nationalwalkoutday, protesting what they feel is a lack of action in the wake of a new rash of school shootings, spurred on by the attack at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. Not sure why Coffin Races hasn't made it to the Winter Olympics yet, but until it does, your only option is the Frozen Dead Guy Days fest in Nederland, Co. A yearly festival celebrating Bredo Mortsøl, who has been cryogenically frozen in a Tuff Shed in the mountains outside of town since 1993.
