We held our in-house Barista competition on Friday, and are so proud of our staff for competing. We had 3 first-time competitors in Daniel, Isaiah, and Michal. Competition takes courage and hard work to put oneself out there in front of one’s peers, and we are very proud to see the next generation competing with our veterans :).

We are proud to partner with great local organizations whose work contributes greatly to our community. It goes without saying that The Drop-in Centre is one of these groups. For many years now, we have been donating more than $15,000 worth of coffee per year to support the work they do to help Calgarians in need, and we believe that everyone should be able to enjoy a delicious cup of coffee. Not too long ago, we received this Kindness award from the DI, and are honoured to have received it! Thank you for the incredible work you do; we are thrilled with our win-win partnership and happy to see our coffee reach new hands.

One of our returning favourites from Colombia, Jose Martinez is back on the menu for espresso. Jose’s work ethic is dizzying, and his attention to detail is second to none. Our relationship with him has grown over the years, and back in 2016 we committed to buy nearly his whole harvest at high prices.

As a company who spends a great deal of money and time 
visiting producers, there is no greater feeling than seeing a producer happy with our business arrangement and proud to work hard to make great coffee. We are proud to work with Jose and his wife Francy!

An amazing visit with “The Coffee Whisper” aka Daniel Kingori. He’s the former manager of the Rukira coffee factory here in Central Kenya and he’s just moved on to manage the Mahiga factory.  He just thinks on a higher plane than pretty much any manager I’ve met in Kenya. It’s no surprise that the coffee from Mahiga is next level this season! In his words, he’s committed to doing his “level best”— a great phrase I intend to use more often! -Phil

All our baristas complete a rigorous 3-4 month training program before making drinks in our cafés. It’s important to us for consistency in quality and experience. We also want the baristas to become comfortable with the theory and manual skills before they are in a pressure environment.

Javaid and co-trainer Jordan put a lot of time and effort into training our staff and wholesale partners. We are thankful for their commitment and passion for what they do and very proud of all of our hard working baristas! Next time you see a barista at a cafe, give them a high five!
