Mapmakers, who predominantly came from the #western world, have told us what the ‘relevant parts’ of our #world are and which #cities are worth mentioning or underlining. On a world #map New York will never be left out, but an ‘unknown’ metropolis like Lahore or Dongguan will. They are obviously less important. 🌎🌍🌏 “World Maps” a beautiful #critical project by #LucasVerweij

Thinking in #images - the logical #structure, the line, the grid, the #frame?
Does fantasy end with repetition – systematic, methodical and efficient?

Līmen by Alan Boom
In anthropology, #liminality is a moment in between stages, with no #structure, time or rules. To Todorov (and me) close [enough] to ‘fantasy’. Searching for reason, it comes from a reasonable place, yet unsure where to go. Very present, #consciously unconscious and vice versa. Everything

Imagined Comfort
by Marija Puipaitė & Vytautas Gečas
#Fantasy is borderless. It is vast, endless and incomplete, but only a fraction of it is used in the creative process. Just as a personal project could be free of external demands and choices, one will find new ways to constrain and restrict himself. #Designers are bound a piece or by a concept, they set a specific purpose, a goal or wish, which creatively results in a product of fantasy controlled by the mind.
This makes the #concept of fantasy in the #creative process highly paradoxical, because ultimately it cannot be #materialized. As soon as it is captured, it no longer represents its original essence. The same way one could never actually fully achieve their goal, as when this moment is reached, the goal had already been transformed into something else. You can grasp the tail but the lizard runs away. Therefore, it’s impossible to fully transfer fantasy into real world phenomena and #objects. #MarijaPuipaitė & #VytautasGečas

Who owns your bones? Asked by Tamar Shafrir. Read this fantastic essay here > onlaterrasse.com curious? Attached a taste from it "Veganism decries the consumption of meat and other animal products, the use of leather or other animal skins, the collection of honey and other animal by-products. But bones cannot be categorised with such clear ethical precision. Who owns your bones? Do they belong to you—to what extent, and for how long after your death? Are your descendants responsible for the preservation of your bones? What about cultures of cremation? And if your bone matter was initially taken from your mother, does it belong in part to her, and thus in corresponding quantities to her mother, and her mother’s mother, and so on? This calcium, which came from the explosion of stars in other galaxies — did it previously belong to alien life forms whose existence we can barely fathom?" #whoownsyourbones #TamarShafrir #onlaterrasse #vegan #vegandesign #veganthinkers #veganworld #bones #essay #design #ddw16 #exhibition #eindhoven #laterrasse #text #criticaldesign
