At age 5, I sang Mehdi Hassan’s ghazal (Zindagi Main Toh Sab Hi) in front of him. Not sure what’s funny: the fact that I sang his ghazal in front of him or that I had ghazals memorized at that age?
In 8th grade, I got escorted out of math class for distracting the rest of the class from humming and singing nonstop. After getting kicked out, I started making funny faces and performing weird moves to make my friends laugh. So for future reference: just kicking me out of a room won’t really do much help.
My friends had a collection of their most favorite toys. I had a collection of my most favorite stereo systems, radio players and speakers.
I would study for finals while listening to music and would end up memorizing lyrics to the song instead of: “mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell.” Fast forward to today: my company’s President walked in to my office and said, “Yamna, you always have a song in your heart. THAT’S AWESOME.” Truly feeling for my coworkers.
I have many issues but always having a song in my mind is my most favorite one.
Not that I need more excuses to crank up my favorite tunes, but it‘s interesting to actually think about how music makes life so much better. - 0 seconds
