Most of us live...
our lives, predicated on the delusion of guaranteed time.
As such, we sacrifice our happiness, health and peace in the moment, because we believe that by doing so, we will be rewarded for with even greater happiness, health and peace, at some point in the future.
Yet, what is this "future" that we've placed such extraordinary faith in,...faith to such an extent that we not only allow ourselves to so extravagantly and so irresponsibly gamble away each present moment, but we feel righteously justified in doing so, as well?
The future is just as much an illusion as the past, and perhaps even more so, given that the future is not rooted in anything that has either happened or is happening.
The future is not a promise, it is only a possibility.
By placing the opportunity for happiness, health and peace in the "here" and "now", for something else "there" and "then", we've already lost more than we could have ever envisioned gaining.
This is not to say that we should construct our lives in such a way that our efforts in the present will not potentially pay dividends in the future, should we be fortunate enough to experience it.
Yet, the vital distinction we must make here is one between sacrifice and investment.
Sacrifice relies on the foolish assumption that both fixed quantities of time and linear outcomes are certain.
Investment, on the other hand, is grounded in the enlightened, conscious awareness that not only are the experiences of happiness, health and peace exclusively accessible in the present moment, but that we likewise need much less to cultivate and sustain them, than we ordinarily believe we do.
