Built a skewed cutting board out of walnut and maple last week. This is the first cutting board I’ve made just for us. The board is 24 x 15 1/4 and 2 1/4 thick. My 14 1/2 inch Ken Shun carving knife is laying on the board for scale.
The skewed design was inspired by Chris @cunningham_wood_work and a small “wonky board” he’d made last November. It was love at first site and I was determined to make something similar, although I wanted mine a bit bigger for roasts and turkeys.
I used an Amana Tool 45984 Carbide Tipped Bowl & Tray Router Bit from @toolstoday for the juice groove. Nothing makes me more frustrated than having those small grooves that always overflow and I was determined fix this on my board. I’m really pleased with how this turned out.
I branded the board with our custom brand from @budgetbrandingiron. I’ve used this a couple of dozen times with very few problems, but I seem to have messed up a little bit this time and didn’t get it quite as even as I was hoping to. Oh well, it wasn’t bad enough to take any drastic remedial action. Obviously more practice is needed here.
The board is finished with two coats of @walrusoil Cutting Board Oil as usual and then followed up by polishing with their Wood Wax. I really like the finish this gives me. - 1 hour ago
