"If vegans don't eat meat, why do they make their food look and taste like it?"
I've seen people on the Internet say things like this and I always think "have they ever tasted plain chicken?" If anything, the opposite is true. People like to make their meat taste like plants! Most meat is pretty bland by nature until you make it taste like garlic, onion, spices, and herbs! .
These Thai peanut cauliflower wings are guaranteed to win over meat lovers (trust me I've tried). They are super simple and can probably be made with things you already have in your kitchen.
1 large head of cauliflower
1/3 cup of all purpose or gf flour
1/2 cup dairy free milk
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp nutritional yeast (optional, aka 'nooch')
1 tbsp onion powder
1/2 cup of breadcrumbs or crushed cornflakes
3 tbsp peanut butter
3 tbsp tamari
1.5 tbsp apple cider vinegar
Garlic powder (I didn't measure!)
1 tbsp organic ketchup (or sub tomato paste + maple syrup)
preheat oven to 400
prepare 3 bowls: one with flour, the second with milk, nooch, garlic and onion powder, and the third with breadcrumbs
cut and wash cauliflower into wing-sized pieces
while still wet, coat the cauliflower pieces in flour, then the milk mixture, then the breadcrumbs.
repeat with all of the pieces and arrange on a lightly greased baking sheet or use parchment paper
bake for approx. 30 min, rotating every 10 until brown
combine remaining ingredients to create sauce
coat wings in sauce and return to oven for 5 minutes
Then take a pic because they'll be gone in seconds!
