An hour once a week or every two weeks in therapy can help towards our healing and growth process, but there are other methods we must apply outside of therapy that can help us heal each day during our journey as well. When I work with my clients I always emphasize the work they do outside of therapy is just as important. What are your go-to’s on a day to day basis? This process looks different for everyone and healing practices won’t look the same. What matters is you develop practices that help maintain and help improve your mental health.

Clark Partners with Popup Races promoting wellbeing and work life balance in Kildare.

The Annual “Jog for a Dog” 5k took place on the grounds of Castletown Estate, Celbridge, in glorious sunshine on Easter Monday, 22nd April 2019. This event is organised every year by My Canine Companion, with the aim of raising funds to train service dogs for kids with Autism. 
Scott McCann was first over the line in just under 17 minutes, 16:59 to be precise, while Josephine Kileen took the female prize, coming in in 21:06. 
But on this sunny day in north Kildare, the “My Canine Companion” charity was the big winner, with thousands of euros raised through entries and sponsorship, which will be used to help fund the training of another dog to go to a worthy new home.

For women who run with wolves 🐺 ..I’ve been making a conscious effort to serve others through the practise of writing with purpose. To share my insights for the benefit of serving the journey of my followers on their own life path. Yet I felt like tonight may just be the time to share more of my own personal journey. Today I completed my first ever psych/social screening for an upcoming job, so that my employee can understand how I hold my own trauma and my triggers so to best support me in my role. Last night, however, I was plagued with thoughts of a past lover and the overwhelming confusion of where my trauma begins, where he fits in the equation and how our relationship ended. After an almost sleepless night, the psychological screening felt like the deepest dive into unpacking 30 years of my history only to leave me slightly confused about the ways in which I perceive reality. I guess perhaps this is why, more and more, I’m surrendering to a higher power to guide my life as my own perceptions are so greatly influenced by my past and projections and dreams of the future. Learning to take responsibility for my choices without blame and ridicule is perhaps more challenging that I had imagined, not simply because it requires relentless self honesty, but because it requires a change in future actions if I am ever wanting to create a different outcome. Not easily done for the compulsive love addict who, for as long as I can remember, has daughter validation in the attention of men. Yet as I grow and mature, I see the reality of my intrinsic self worth and the fire within that needs no ones approval to exist as a force of my own. It is within my nature to fight back with resilience, for running with the wolves is where I am meant to be 🐺 .

Rope sirsasana is a much loved and widely practiced pose within the Iyengar Yoga method. It will be featured in the upcoming advanced class on Yoga Selection. This image shows a common method for getting in and out of the pose. When adjusting the pose care needs to be taken to ensure that the rope remains positioned at the base of the spine near your sacrum. Placing the rope in this region can help to impart a comfortable release to your whole spine as you hang upside down. This is a very popular and sought after aspect of the pose. If you are short in stature you may benefit from standing on blocks in stage 1. This extra height under your feet will help to minimise the tendency for the rope to slide higher up into your lower back. Even taller people may find that the rope rides up into your back waist as you walk up the wall. This can be adjusted in stage 2 by keeping one hand on the rope, whilst using the opposite hand to reach behind and more comfortably reposition the rope. A blanket is used to prevent the rope from cutting into your skin. Most people will find that this is especially problematic in the outer hip region. For this reason a blanket can be wrapped around the entire pelvic area (as in this image). If you have tight hips the ropes may also be prone to digging into the inner thigh region. Padding may be needed to remove this discomfort. The ability to remain comfortable and relaxed is a great guide in terms of the set up for this pose. The benefits of supported inversions such as rope sirsasana are well documented. Nothing else works , there is way too much focus on weight loss sometimes and the marketing companies take huge advantage of that . If you have a solid , sensible eating pattern your body will find its right weight and settle there . It’s marketing that got us into a world of obesity and chaos . Beware of that . Get good eating patterns, Concentrate on the nutrients in your food . Everyday food is often very good for you , it doesn’t need to be super food or from fancy expensive stores .

You don't have to track calories to be in a deficit. Sometimes you just have to make some small adjustments.

Lower carb meals are a good way to do this. Doesn't have to be long term, but can definitely be a tool to help your progress.

Having a chat with a friend about the pro's and con's of dog ownership. It's a big commitment for sure, but also interesting how she viewed her relationship with her dog as a huge asset to her mental health and wellbeing. The time spent walking him and the routine it's given her - no matter what, he needs her. Even on a bad day, or a busy one, making that time to get outside and walk him really keeps her grounded & helps her create time and space for herself, both physically & mentally. So even if you don't own a dog, perhaps there's real merit in borrowing one! Even just once a week for a regular walk. And if you do, maybe you can relate in some way? Hands up all you Type A perfectionists!! 🙋🏻‍♀️. Who thinks that they are the ONLY ones that can do all the things and can never ask for help?  OKOKOK I will fully admit I am one of these people.  I am stubborn and like my shit done a specific way dammit! 
My mantra... "I can do it myself!"
(picture 4 year-old me here with a huffy pout and arms crossed). Buuuuut, when I'm stressed out and don't have time to do HALF of all the things, or I'm spread so thin I'm not doing ANYthing well... was that really the best plan of action for me to take?  Mmmno.

Wrapping our head around the fact that we CAN'T do it all, and that it's OK not to do it all is a work in progress for many of us Type A-ers.  But we can loosen the grip on control and give some of it up to the Universe.  Or maybe our spouses 😉.

Wednesday Wisdom - Focus on one thing at a time⁣

Multi-tasking has become the way we operate. We've become good at it. ⁣
⁣
Skipping from one thing to another, getting little bits of many things done at one time. Checking the easy things off our to-do lists. ⁣
⁣
Sound familiar? ⁣
⁣
Studies have proven that multi-tasking is not good for our brains and it isn't an effective or efficient way to get things done. ⁣
⁣
What happens to me is I get overwhelmed with too many things on my to-do list. Then I get stuck and don't do anything.⁣
⁣
But when I break things down into smaller tasks, schedule each small step into my calendar and focus only on that one thing, I'm so much more productive. ⁣

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is a condition where the median nerve in the wrist is compressed. This causes numbness, tingling and pain.  There can also be burning, cramping, stiffness and weakness.  Although there are many factors that can contribute to CTS, (fluid retention, arthritis, diabetes etc), it is often caused by repetitive work that causes swelling of the tendons and ligaments which then compresses the nerve. 
Below are some of the remedies most frequently prescribed in acute CTS. 
If you have chronic CTS, you should see a licensed a homeopath for a constitutional evaluation and treatment. 
Ruta:
This remedy is helpful when overuse is a factor.  Ruta has a strong affinity for tendons and ligaments.  There is stiffness of the wrist, and numbness and tingling after any use.  Warmth will ameliorate the symptoms. 
Rhus tox:
This remedy is also typically associated with CTS from overuse.  Where Rhus tox is needed, the wrist is most painful on beginning to move, and improves with continued movement.  There is stiffness, with a desire to move and stretch the wrist.  Cold and damp conditions make the symptoms worse. 
Kali carb:
This remedy is useful when there are burning pains in the fingers, and stitching and tearing pains in the joints and tendons. There is numbness in the hands and forearms which is aggravated by exertion and by cold weather.

Today marks 4 months since my last big vertigo drop attack! I’ve not managed to get past 4 months inbetween big attacks yet! So here’s hoping this good spell will continue 🙏 I still get a few nasty reminders inbetween the biggies, but I believe they’re there to refocus me, to make sure I keep that happy medium of not doing too much or not doing too little. Like for example at the moment I’m working and on the computer, I know I need to take regular breaks in order to not push me over the edge and have an attack.
Milestones no matter how big or small are there to celebrate. It could be an hour, a day, a week, a month, a year.... patting ourselves on the back and celebrating our achievements keeps us in a positive mindset and helps us heal. It’s so easy to fall into the negative mindset chatter! “I can’t do this anymore” “I’m exhausted by these symptoms” “this is so hard” “what if I’m like this forever” “will I ever get better” “I’m so dizzy I can’t cope”
Make it your mission to change these negatives and instead use positive affirmations. “I’ve got this” “I’m so proud I did that today” “I’m embracing this relapse and it’s only temporary” “I will conquer this”. Using EFT tapping is another way to affirm statements like these and get them lodged deep into your brain so you continue to step forward and fight on. 💪

Mindfulness is the ability to be in the present, and can be likened to meditation. 🌲
If you feel your mind is wandering due to stress, anxiety or other emotions, you could try mindfulness grounding to bring you back to the present. 🌲
I find taking a walk helps with my grounding as I focus on things I can see; such as a lake, trees or boats, and things I can hear; such as the birds or the wind rustling through the trees.  You can use all of your sense if you want to.  Make sure you use this time to concentrate on your breathing and to check in with yourself; what emotions were you feeling before and how do you feel now? 🌲

I feel it’s almost like summer☀️ so pretty weather outside:)
I’m so happy I finished my final presentation (as a first presenter in a classroom!) and did good job. I need to finish my paper for it based on my peer’s comment🔥 That’s short 10min (I put so much info) but helpful to organize my paper.
For my job letter, they just sent me physical letter😂 maybe I need to wait 2-3 more days... I can’t wait to announce!!!! But I was glad to start helping other staff/admin member with my translation:)
My Psychology Lab is close to the end as well... this class was always crisp and fun, I appreciate to my professor! Literature review for this class was very helpful for me to learn Wellbeing and Marching Arts as well. Bring them to my graduate thesis!!🎓

Valmennuksessa lähtötilanteesi kartoitetaan ensin. Hankalammastakin elämäntilanteesta voi ponnistella ylös ja tehdä tarvittavat muutokset. Muistutuksena tässä jälleen, että ratkaisukeskeinen valmennus on tarkoitettu henkisesti terveille ihmisille. Tämä tarkoittaa sitä, että valmennettavalla on voimia käsitellä asioitaan sekä myös voimia ja halua sitoutua muutokseen sekä tehdä tarvittavat muutokset. Jos ei ole ihan varma omasta tilanteestaan, voi aina tarkastaa terveydenhuollon ammattilaisilta, minkälainen apu sopisi parhaiten omaan tilanteeseen. Mielenterveysongelmissa ei ole mitään hävettävää. Onneksi tämä asia tuntuu kääntyvän pikkuhiljaa suomessakin edistykselliseempään suuntaan, ihmiset uskaltavat enemmän keskustella asioista ja hakea apua eri tilanteisiin.

Mielestäni vahva on se, joka myöntää olevansa heikko toisinaan. On viisautta tunnustaa se tosiasia, ettei aina jaksa, tiedä ja osaa kaikkea, eikä voi hyvin. Toki voi käydä niinkin elämässä, ettei aina itse tiedosta ja tunnista kaikkea itsessän, jolloin kyse voi olla ymmärtämättömyydestä tai jokin asia ei ole vielä kypsynyt tarpeeksi.
Ihminen on kuitenkin lopulta itse vastuussa omasta elämästään ja siitä, millaista se elämä suurimmaksi osaksi on. Kaikkeen emme pysty vaikuttamaan ja kaikkea emme pysty muuttamaan, mutta hyvin moneen asiaan pystymme vaikuttamaan ja monta asiaa pystymme muuttamaan.
