Tonight, in the company of my amazing family and with a baby due in 2 weeks, I graduated from COLLEGE with a degree in Welding and Metal Fabrication! It took me hella years to finally find something that I loved and stuck to it through night school 5 days a week for 2 years while working full time. I looked up a few trades and my only thought about welding was "hmm that looks kinda fun.." knowing absolutely nothing about it. My first week was terrifying, I thought I made the biggest mistake (again?! Bitch.. for real) but I held on and busted my ass til the end. Fell.....in.....love with the skill! I made the Dean's list twice, completed multiple certificates, passed 3 welding certifications and got 2 welding jobs! I was the only girl left in my class after the first semester and had an awesome experience with a lot of support from my male peers.
I'm so proud of myself - considering school has never been my jam. I'd never have been able to do it all without my tiny village of people carrying me and motivating me to keep going (cause Lord knows I said "fuck this" on many occasions) @ashmaster07 @buffaloledfoot @zacharythorndyke. Especially my mum @milleytea for doing absolutely everything in her power to help me through it all and having my baby 5 nights a week for me. I'd come home from work, spend 30 minutes with my daughter and then leave to school til 11pm every single night.
Trades are a tough environment for women to be in. Most jobs are filthy, really hard work and male dominated. But from personal experience, we can grow a human, give birth, raise our family and fully kick ass in a trade as well.
This is dedicated to my dad, the man of many trades, the legend himself.
