Eurasian Kingfisher. I’ve seen it so many times but it takes my breath away, every time again. The intensity of the blue in our barren winter landscape is just surreal. I’ve visited a Kingfisher nesting cavity from last season yesterday to find out if there was already some courtship activity, now that spring is so early. But there was not, yet.. That meant there was no reason to sit on the perches in front of my hide that was close to the old nest. After sitting for two hours I heard a Kingfisher call in the distance and decided to walk upstream along the creek to see if I could find it. And just byond the next bend I saw it, perched on a willow branch. The catkins give away spring is just around the corner. Handheld shot at 700mm (500mm prime and 1.4x converter on fullframe) I did not crop so you can see how the blue spot ‘jumps out’ in the landscape.
