Adam McKay follows up "The Big Short" with yet another unconventional biopic on a part of American history that rattled the world as we know today. Vice-President Dick Cheney was quite the dick of a human being as a politician, and that cost the lives of hundred-thousands. This is a dark true-story told in a loud, satirical way, an aesthetic that has become synonymous with McKay.
If you are looking for a nitty-gritty biopic about war crimes committed by politicians, look elsewhere. This is a whole different animal for how it keeps trying to make you laugh with the same story, and for most times succeeds. This is a story of right-wing conservatives told by liberals. You'd naturally expect it to be one-sided, but the characters are humanised enough by the makers. Christian Bale is a powerhouse and so is Amy Adams, the pair nails their acts as a couple balancing conflicts in their personal and political lives. But the aspect that lends a true edge to the film is its packaging. Very fluid editing and the mockingly disruptive narration will keep amusing you at the very least.
