Ho Karan “The story of HO KARAN began in 1965, when my grandparents Jean and Ginette began Growing hemp. The industrial variety of Cannabis sativa was chosen for its long fibres, processed at Quimperlé paper mill. At the time, they did not use the seeds, which are an incredible treasure for cosmetics and well-being. Today, I am writing a new page in our story, with the help of Breton hemp growers using only organic and biodynamic methods. Our mission: to show all the benefits of Cannabis sativa, to everyone! HO KARAN, “I love you” in Breton, is a declaration to these hemp growers, to their spirit, and to our planet. Committed to traceability and quality, we formulate and make our products entirely in France, from plant to lab. We work with cannabis farmers who use organic or biodynamic processes.
We value local production and we strive to reduce transport distances for the different components of products. Our boxes come from responsibly managed forests. We are currently working to analyse each product life-cycle, so that we can tell you the environmental impact of a product as well as its price. We hope that this will help you make informed consumer choices. If tomorrow we were to know the carbon impact of each product, would we always buy the cheapest?
Our care products will never go out of fashion. Unlike textiles, cosmetics aren’t seasonal, so there’s no need for sales. We offer you high-quality products at a fair price. We will not artificially inflate prices just so that we can cut them later.
We know we’re far from perfect, and that we have a long way to go, but we’re determined to do the best we can. For example, in the coming months, we’ll be replacing plastic packaging with oil-free options. Certain obstacles are harder to overcome, for example the economic need.
We go beyond the refusal of tests on animals, we also make sure to use no animal material in our formulas (beeswax, keratin, milk,...). Plants provide us with enough super-ingredients to get quality cosmetics.”
