I get asked quite often for tips to deal with anxiety/mental health in general.
Where I am a firm believer that there is no quick fixes for anxiety, I do use a ton of tricks and tools that keep me on track throughout the day.
My tip today?
Practice being BORED.
I’m talking no phone or insta scrolling, no TV in the background, no chewing on your fingernails BORED.
I know it sounds silly and probably simple, but I promise you, the more comfortable you get with yourself in silence- the more STRENGTH you will have to stand up to the anxiety when it arises. It may even reduce how often you feel that gripping feeling in your gut.
↠Every time you hit a red light see if you can hear your breath as it moves in and out.
Look around- notice a shop on the corner that you’ve never notice before or search for a picture in the clouds.
↠Next time you’re waiting in line- don’t immediately go for your phone. Instead say hi to a stranger, or maybe just smile to yourself knowing that you have the gift of a moment of stillness. Note: These moments feel like a burden when taken for granted.
No one can make you do this work, this practice.
But in the words of my teacher’s teacher, “When you really need your practice, you will hope that you have been practicing daily.”
Have a beautiful weekend friends.
Peace, love and light
