Today summer has arrived on the North Downs and I was witnessing the great unfurling as flowers bloomed, ferns uncoiled and so many new leaves were bursting into bright green.
Join us for a Deep Listening workshop on the 9 June for a collective exploration of the art of deeply listening to (and through) our environment, bodies, dreams and creativity in the lush green of the North Downs.
Pauline Oliveros, composer, describes Deep Listening as ‘listening in every possible way, to everything possible to hear, no matter what one is doing.’ Learn how to heighten your awareness of the sonic environment, both external and internal, through workshops promoting experimentation, improvisation, collaboration, playfulness and other creative skills vital to personal and community growth. Plus, it is a lot of fun.
Meeting at Whyteleafe Station we will set out on foot to explore the sonic environment of Kenley Common. The workshop will involve walking (around 3 miles) over hilly terrain and spend time in wooded and meadow environments. We will explore our environment through Deep Listening exercises including listening meditations, sonic meditations, sonic improvisation and sound play; and practice deeply listening to our bodies through gentle movement exercises drawn from Tai Chi alongside playful sonic and movement improvisations. Drawing on our environment, lived experience and dreams as inspiration for sound and movement improvisation.
