This morning I was working on my form and trying to stop the butt lift. Still happening at 110, so will keep persevering. Unable to hit 120kg today, not even off the ground. Will reassess again in 2 weeks. ◽️
Ladies always take into account your cycle and compare week 1 with week 1 and not week to week 😉 this will give you a true gauge on how you’re tracking! ◽️

230lbs/104.3kg squat for a nice easy single. Went to do an unprogrammed amrap after. Didn't get a single one up. Oh wells. The single felt really good so at least I got that.

125lbs/56.7kg bench for an amrap after an easy single. Managed to get 6 reps. Although that last rep was kind of wobbly and hitting the rack.

240lbs/108.8kg deadlift amrap after 4 sets of singles. Managed to get 5 reps. I forgot to chalk up again for this set and I could feel my hands go on the 4th rep but I knew I had one more in me so I pushed out a 5th.

One week out.

726lbs for a smooth single. Deadlifted yesterday, and in the middle of my workout, I had to stop and leave due to work obligations. Came back in tonight to finish what I started yesterday. It’s been a VERY hectic few days in Memphis, and I just find it easier to lose myself in the same place I ironically find myself, which is in the gym. I don’t recommend heavy lifts of the same body part on back to back days, but it’s either this or find another less healthy option for stress relief sooooooo.... lifting it is. I tried sumo deadlifts for the first time today, I had been so curious. I tried with light weights 60kg/132 pounds. It felt good, tough to lift but good and it also makes me look huge haha but strong. Not sure if it will be my deadlift preference but I will give it another go and go heavier.

425/193X2 TRAINING NOTES: This was sposta be a 4X12 at 50% but as you can see I have ZERO SELF CONTROL. "I'll just add a pair if 25s... ok just one more pair..." 200lbs later I'm doing shit I'm not sposta be. This is a very embarrassing set for me as I'm clearly not respecting my body. You see me hesitate and reset my hips a second time prior to second rep (something that only happens when I'm nervous), consequently; there's my hip rise. I can think of a lot of excuses like how this trash platform creates a 1" deficit,  or how these new eleiko bars are already bowed from trashy lifting, but ultimately it's ME not having self control and sticking to the hypertrophy block I'm sposta be on... strength is a skill, and seasonal.

Finally got to the gym this morning at 6 am did some fasted beltless sumos really working on finding out what works best for me. Just dropped the weight back a bit and worked up to 160kg by 5 then 180kg by 2 but gassed out after that went too move 200kg and nearly passed out ha ha finished with some bench and called it a day.

Das Training heute hatte sehr schlechte Voraussetzungen: gestern Dienst (morgen auch 🤦), schlecht geschlafen, nicht so gut gelaunt, weil Freund kaum gesehen (er hat auch Dienst 🤦) und dazu noch mit dem linken Auge zeitweise veschwommen gesehen, weil die Kontaktlinse sich ständig verdreht hat ( danke #astigmatismus 🤦). Also wurde heute alles "nach Gefühl" und ohne viel Nachdenken gehoben/gedrückt/gebeugt.
Sumo lief am besten - 85 kg x5 (PR), ziemlich leicht und mit verbesserter Technik. Wahrscheinlich hilft Kopf ausschalten dann doch manchmal, was meint ihr?

Deadlifts felt good today and felt like I was using quads more to move weight off floor. Finally hit 255x4 but was slight overshoot

Bench felt pretty good. Repeated last week’s weight and everything moved so much more smoothly. Happy to report no overshoots here!

For some reason I feel the leg press more in my glutes than my quads or hams. Is this normal? No joke I consistently get a ton of glute soreness when I do these even with a hip-width stance @barbellsandcats .

For those who are in-season combining isometric sumo pen pulls w/speed sumo deadlifts are a great way to keep your volume low and still get your speed work in. The isometrics get the motor units to fire, the work at a particular angle is radiated 15% either above or below the point where the force is applied. For guys who are in season we usually only do 1 speed pull following the isometric and have the athlete move that speed pull against band tension. Deadlift sets and reps vary per athlete but I’ve seen success w/our guys at usually 6-8 sets of 1 or 2 reps. 3 reps if the athlete is advanced and can maintain bar speed. Different work to rest ratios depending on the sport.

@carloramon_ in the video however is not in season, he actually moves weight faster as sets go on. So toward the end of his VBT work he will climb into a higher training speed even if the weight stays the same. So I wanted to see how he responds to the isometrics. Getting his motor units to fire first ended in better pulls for him to hit the speed he needed for today. Not to mention it will clean up his form on the bar as time goes on.

I would not recommend isometrics to be longer than 6 seconds. Holding your breathe can challenge the cardiovascular system but holding it for too long can actually produce a negative affect. We never use isometrics prior to puberty or w/novice athletes. We utilize isometrics for both strength and speed depending on the individual and what they need.

Hopefully, this makes you think a little deeper about your training methods.

Deadlifts this week felt amazing! 🔥 This is my first week of prep to use my “comp form” aka not being super OCD about glutes being the primary mover and these moved super well!
