It’s Tuesday!! 🙌

My week has kind of started rough. Emotionally I’m in a weird place with lots of new things happening. But I am so grateful for everything and taking it one day at a time. 
In the midst of my breakdown I made it to the gym and didn’t workout super hard but I got a good arm workout in and I feel a lot better after that. Here’s to better days ahead. 💕

December 2017 to January 2019. Just a little over a year, I have lost 40+ pounds and still striving forward. Not everyone loses the same. Age, body type, and other things factor in to this. This journey is not about who gets there first, but us staying the course. Learning how to manage vacations, sickness, sadness, boredom, and overall stress of life without going out of control. Are there times I am way over in points?, YES! But overall, I do pretty well and it can be discouraging to not see more on the scale/inches. I am just so thankful that I am where I am at today than staying where I was a year ago! I move more, I feel better, and overall getting happier where I am at which is a blessing. I will see more change, but I can’t guarantee when. When I first learned about coaching, I was quick to brush it off as something that wasn’t for me. —
I had a gym routine. I enjoyed lifting weights and building strength. I had learned a lot on my own and didn’t think I needed any help, and DEFINITELY not any shakes 🙅🏻‍♀️

I thought only middle-aged women and people who were clueless used workout videos (no offense meant, promise 😅). I didn’t want to feel stuck with only at-home options. I thought they were only about weight-loss and I was scared of losing muscle - mainly the booty 🍑😅

But I realized doing it alone wasn’t working for me anymore. I found it hard to commit to actually going to the gym regularly. The journey was lonely, I was unmotivated.

I started out as a coach because I thought maybe the extra accountability could be a good thing (it was). In the beginning I took my workouts to the gym because even after signing up I was so hesitant to do them at home. I’m telling you, if you’re skeptical and dead set against home workouts, I GET it. I was there.

But you know what? I realized after going all in with my first full program at home that this was the right choice. THIS was going to give me the results I wanted, not the hours I spent in the gym.

Now - I have hundreds of options at my fingertips.
I can do cardio, lift weights, HIIT, resistance band training, dance it out, kickboxing, step workouts, yoga. It’s not all cookie-cutter, one-size-fits-all. It’s about YOUR goals, YOUR training style.

Now - I love this coach life.
I’m no longer alone.
I’m no longer struggling with consistency.
I’m helping myself and others every day.
My life is forever changed. —

Blueberry frittata: scramble four eggs with 1 tablespoon coconut aminos (this ingredient can't be skipped), 1 teaspoon cinnamon, and 1 teaspoon vanilla (omit for Whole 30). Pour into non-stick skillet and cook until firm on bottom, then add blueberries. After firm on top, flip and cook for a few more minutes, until firm. I topped mine with more blueberries, hemp seeds, chia seeds, and bee pollen.

As I’m posting this picture now, I’m realizing that one container doesn’t have feta in it, and I’m praying I didn’t take that one today 🤦🏻‍♀️🙏🏼 I went to #costco this weekend and grabbed a fat slab of this wild caught salmon to prep for lunches this week. REALLY trying to cut out the “buying lunch” from my workweek routine (hi budget 👋🏼) and having a spread like this is how to make it happen 👌🏼 TUESDAY let’s go ✌🏼

📸 how to cook this salmon: Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Cut giant slab of salmon into manageable pieces. Coat each piece with ghee/oil spray + @primalpalate seafood seasoning. Heat avocado oil in a cast iron pan on high until it smokes a little. Reduce to medium heat and add the salmon into the pan skin side down (crispy salmon skin is porn to me). Flip after about 4 minutes and then flip back after another 4 minutes. Once oven is preheated, pop the cast iron in for about 6 minutes. Take it out and then you’re DONE ✅

While most know me as the “sandbag guy” I was inspired to investigate old time training methods like sandbags by my early work with kettlebells back in 2003. I’ve always kept my love for kettlebells and think the combination of our DVRT work and kettlebells is one of the best combos for functional strength. You can imagine how frustrating it is to see the popularity of kettlebells rise, but the failure to realize how the technique to use them correctly is what actually creates results. That is why I selected 3 examples of some of the most common errors in benefitting from kettlebells.

💪🏻 Kettlebells are great for squats. They help load the core as well as the legs helping us connect the two allowing us to take that strength to real life situations. Since our legs can only create as much force as our pelvis can stabilize, using kettlebell squats makes a lot of sense. However, when people let the elbows come away from the body they are losing their #plank . They are making themselves weaker, even though they THINK they are gaining leverage.

💪🏻 Pressing kettlebells overhead allows us to connect our grip to our shoulder and the balance of the kettlebell helps us gain better mobility. Since grip strength has a correlation to rotator cuff health, when people open up their arm and THEN press along with opening the hand they lose the stability of the shoulder. They drop the strength of the upper body and connection to the core.

People often overlook how they load the body, they don’t realize that our body works in opposites (as what happens during walking) and they load the same side. This goes against much of our neurology, but also changes the leverage of the movement making it very awkward. Even more important is the grip we take on the kettlebell. Connecting the lat to the core helps our glutes function. Rotating the hand palm down takes away the lats and destabilizes our body during the deadlift.

🥦 Sweet Potato Black Bean Bowls 🍠

One of my easiest but best meal prep recipes! Super yummy and quick to assemble 🤗👍🏻

Makes 4 servings 🍠
🍠 400 g cooked sweet potato, cubed
🥦 2 c broccoli florets
🌽 1 can black beans, rinsed and drained
🍠 1/2 c uncooked quinoa
🥦 1 c chopped red onion
🌽 1/4 c corn kernels
🍠 1 avocado, diced
🥦 1/2 c light cheese blend
🌽 cilantro and lime to top

1️⃣ Cook quinoa according to package directions. Let cool and set aside
2️⃣ Cook Sweet potato 🍠 in oven or microwave. I used micro since I don’t have an oven at the moment 😜 Scrub the sweet potato clean, pierce it with a fork all over, wrap in a damp paper towel and microwave on plate for 3-4 min until tender when you pierce it. Let cool and then cut into cubes
3️⃣ Steam broccoli in micro or on stove

🥦 Sweet Potato Black Bean Bowls • One of my easiest but best meal prep recipes! Super yummy and quick to assemble 🤗🏻 • Makes 4 servings 400 g cooked sweet potato, cubed 🥦 2 c broccoli florets 1 can black beans, rinsed and drained 1/2 c uncooked quinoa 🥦 1 c chopped red onion 1/4 c corn kernels 1 avocado, diced 🥦 1/2 c light cheese blend cilantro and lime to top • 1️⃣ Cook quinoa according to package directions. Let cool and set aside 2️⃣ Cook Sweet potato in oven or microwave. I used micro since I don’t have an oven at the moment Scrub the sweet potato clean, pierce it with a fork all over, wrap in a damp paper towel and microwave on plate for 3-4 min until tender when you pierce it. I decided to try something new today, and to set my goals and intentions before I really start my day. ✨ Honestly I am@super sore from getting back into the gym yesterday, so I’m going to do a 30 min beach body workout at home today. I also need to step up my water intake, I notice a serious difference when I actually stick to my water goals. Nighttime snacking is my downfall and it’s what usually can make a perfect day less than, so tonight I’ll just have some tea instead. Lastly, reading is good for you and I like to unwind with a book in bed at night. What are you goals for the day?!

I loaded a couple of slices of seven seed bread with homemade hummus and quick pickled onions leftover from taco night, whole milk yogurt, 🍌 slices and hazelnut butter 👏🏻🤤 HAPPY TUESDAY friends!! 😘

Quick pickled onions: thinly slice a red onion and fully submerge it in 2 parts white vinegar 1 part red wine vinegar. I use a mason jar. Let sit for 30-60 minutes on the counter, eat, and store in the fridge when done!

I mean, I’m actually over here dead at myself. Why are we so afraid of our rolls? Of our skin? Rolls happens, that’s just how things go sometimes (hello, rolls are just skin and when we angle our bodies a certain way, they can pop up, nooooooo freakin b!), nobody is perfect and they certainly aren’t perfect year round 🤷🏼‍♀️. 2015 vs 2019 💪🏻#transformationtuesday

Four years between these two pictures. Same tank top, two very different physiques. I’m barely the same girl, tbh.

This is the culmination of consistency and hard work. No magic formula. I educated myself. I sought to grow in every way and I took that knowledge and applied it every day.

This is also the difference between focusing on heavy squats versus heavy hip thrusts and single leg leg press.

But my calves still suck 😭 #teamnocalves

The process hasn’t been linear. I haven’t always been perfect. I’ve had sick days, days of no motivation, days where I didn’t give a flying f$&@ what I ate, days of half assed workouts. Lived through a complete shit storm of stress and depression. I’ve gained and lost and gained weight.

But, I never stopped.
.
I fell in love with lifting.
.
I fell in love with the process.
.
I fell in love with the lifestyle.
.
It wasn’t ingrained in me. I wasn’t born like this. I found it in me.

For those that say co-sleeping is bad...well Griffin has been sleeping through the night since he was about 2 months old and now that he is in his crib he sleeps from 7:30pm until I wake him up around 7am for daycare.🙌🙌

Getting up close and personal with my overnight peanut oats this morning👀 I keep it pretty simple when it comes to making my overnight oats🥣I’ve found (for my personal preference) that I get the best evenly distributed creamy consistency when I use peanut powder instead of a glob of regular peanut butter. First I mix together the dry ingredients: 1/2 cup dry oats + 2.5 tbsp of peanut powder + 1 scoop of collagen peptides + ground flaxseed. Then I add 1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk. I don’t add any fruit until the next day/whenever I’m about to eat the oats. Sometimes I’ll top with whole nuts or some additional nut butter for some extra nutty-ness🤪 #overnightoats #breakfast #postworkout #collagen

In H.S. I hated my body. I stopped buying bras at DD (and I was popping out of them). Shopping sucked because nothing fit. Playing volleyball I can't even count how many times I got called in the net because my boobs hit them while jumping. .
.
When I was 18 after I graduated H.S. and before going to college I had a reduction. .
.
But to this day, I still see the effects that extra weight had on my body. I still have lines on my stomach from my horrible posture and slouching. .
.
But today when I look in the mirror, I see a woman who has gone through so much and persevered. She is finding her strength and confidence in her body. I see someone who is consistent and doesn't give up.

My first thought is, “No one is ever “ready” for anything, so ya might as well jump head first and just go for it.”

My second thought is, “Do ya think I started off as the most perfect person? And do you think I’ve worked on myself enough to say I’m a perfect person?” AHH NOOO I am STILL to this day working on me, sharing my journey and being a human. I will never get enough personal development, trust me.

You don’t have to go through a whole program to do this.
You don’t have to have read through a whole personal development book.
No one cares about the before and after photos, honestly.

People care about what goes on in between those photos, the hard ship, the struggle, the wins, the celebrations.

2 weeks down! 😁⠀

I started out this program after a week on the road, eating like crap and not being active😬 Yesterday I began the 3rd week. Not only am I seeing physical progress but also mental. The first couple weeks were a little rough and even though my workouts are only 20 minutes long I’d still try to make excuses for myself of why I couldn’t do it. That really started to become a problem in the 2nd week... The excuses I’d make for myself weren’t anything that I couldn’t control, sometimes it would take me until 7 or 8 at night to get over myself and finally get my 20 minutes in. Today was still tough but I can tell I’m getting stronger, I am so excited to see where I’ll be by the end of my 6 weeks! 💪🏽

My first run in a few months from Sunday.
