It is my philosophy to train the athlete to be able to do work when the hamstrings are fatigued. SSC member @paytonspowerlifting competed in the meet we held this last weekend! Payton is a senior in high school and this was his first powerlifting meet that he has ever competed in.
Payton totaled 485 kg / 1067lbs , squatting 192.5 kg / 424 lbs, benching 90 kg / 198 lbs, and deadlifting 202.5 kg / 446 lbs.

Man, i KILLED IT! In honor of breaking a plateau I did level 10-12 on the stair master for 30 minutes and then did a cool down of 7 mins. Banded Bench Press for 10x3 at 165 + Doubled Red Bands (about 80 lbs. of tension at the top) - Using bands can help you improve your technique!
✅I get a lot of shit for using all of the training implements that we have to the point of being called the “Bands and Chains Guy” and I’ll admit, it’s much deserved, haha! If more people knew about the utility of bands in their training, they would use them too!
🧠Adding bands to your lifts is a great way to help you improve your technique on them. They work because they provide inertial resistance to the lift instead of just adding mass to it. This is important because with just mass, you can accelerate through certain points that you’re weak at by exerting a ton of force earlier in the lift, bands force you to create force throughout the entire range of motion that you move through in a lift, they are always pulling you towards the point where they’re attached. By having to create force throughout the entire range of motion, you have to be in the right positions to create that force optimally in that range, which is how bands work to improve your technique!
🧠To use bands in your training, it’s important that you get the most tension possible out of them, making sure that they are taught at the top of the lift and have tension throughout the entire range of motion.
🧠What I’ve been doing, to get maximal transference to my straight weight lifts, is to do multiple sets of the lift versus band tension, take the bands off and perform at least 1 set of straight weight work immediately afterwards (prepare for an interesting feeling if you try this!) to really lock in the technique that I used with the bands.

1. Incorporate both aerobic and anaerobic running into your training.

2. The above energy systems can be broken down further and then training can be more specific, however, own your basics first. Learn to run, turn and stop at speed well.

3. Strength train.

4. Get to know your ego. Learn when to listen and ignore it.

5. Get comfy playing on your own and getting things wrong. Whether it's in your garden, drive way, local astro/turf or bedroom, move the ball and try new skills.

6. *Bonus* Don't be afraid of breaking a few of your mum's windows. Probably best to use a different target if you want to survive. That or learn to be quick on your toes!

TRX BULGARIAN SPLIT SQUATS

A good single leg stability accessory for the lower posterior chain 👌🏻
Did these with the homie @tim__es a few years ago and now I integrate them for #PlyoTuesdays with @braveheartathlete.
.
- Hook one foot on a TRX handle and step out with the other.
- Practice doing the split squat first before trying to hold weights.
- I normally do 8-12 reps each side per set.
- Try not to bang your knee on the floor.

Here's how to perform the Scap Wall Slide with Lift-Off!

1️⃣Take a small step away from the wall.
2️⃣Place your forearms on the wall about shoulder width apart
3️⃣Keep the back straight
4️⃣Push slightly away from the wall and slide the arms into a "Y" position.
5️⃣When you reach the top, lift your arms away from the wall without arching your back
6️⃣Return your hands back to the wall
7️⃣Slide hands back down into the starting position

Q: WHAT HAS IT BEEN LIKE BEING BACK HOME IN HAWAII IN A PRIVATE SETTING COMPARED TO THE COLLEGE SCENE?

A: First, it’s been great being back home and closer to my Ohana. The biggest changes have been the training scene but the principles remain the same

Q: DON’T YOU TRAIN ATHLETES DIFFERENT THAN NON ATHLETES?

A: Not quite. The reason or purpose is different, but again, the principles are the same

Q: HOW SO?

A: My coaching roots started with athletes and sport teams at the college level. I am no longer in that environment but came to a conclusion that say I have 50 individuals I’m working with, I have 50 different sports because there are 50 different lives that must be taken account of

A: Here’s an example: a woman who works a full time job that can be high stressed, has 2 kids, has an injury history of a torn ACL from club soccer which caused her to stop playing, went physical therapy and was cleared, constantly finds she sprains her right ankle and experienced low back pain during work, and now wants to get back to playing club soccer. Do you see what I mean? Even if she didn’t want to go back to play soccer the approach to working with her still would follow the same principles as I would with an athlete

This was Abraham’s first actual strength training session. 
He put those 25KG thick Watson DB’s up easily. His shoulder handled the DB work and all the back work beautifully. We still need some more work on his trap 3 and pariceials. 
Abe is competing this weekend so be safe buddy!!!

Picking a few shapes from the ever growing movement arsenal.

It's a deload week so throwing in some play and more conventional weight lifting movements and protocols like  supersets, drop sets and seeing if bodyweight strength exercises translate to free gains with dumbells and barbells.

Haven't been using conventional weights, especially dumbell presses etc... as the focus has been on bodyweight strength training and flexibility. 
However, it got me thinking whether I could throw some of it back into my macro programming and how effective/supplementary it could be for the bodyweight strength work.

Only one way to find out.
