Glycemic Index☝️ Even though we know Calorie IN vs Calorie OUT play the most important role, Glycemic index (GI) cannot be neglected specially by athletes & diabetic population.
Athletes who practice or workout twice a day, who has more than one game in a day needs to have high glycemic index food. In order to fulfil the high-energy need of the game or workout & replenish stored energy i.e. Muscle glycogen & get ready for the next game or workout.
With the knowledge of glycemic index it’s easier for the Diabetic population to choose & plan their meals. By choosing Low/Moderate GI food over High GI food will help them to maintain their blood glucose levels, which is the most important thing to be monitored for the diabetic population.

I'm not too sure if it's my t-shirt or the bank holiday that's made me look preggers 🤰

#Carbs are stored in our muscles as glycogen, where for every part #glycogen it holds 3-4 parts water.

So. This is why during our holiday binging (eating more carbs than normal) will often lead to a sharp increase in weight. Likewise, a long session like Murph the day after may deplete our glycogen stores leaving us with the impression that we have lost a lot of #fat, when in fact it's just a drop in water/carbohydrates. This is why I don’t advise to base your weight off one reading per week as something like the above, gut residue or hydration can all skew your ‘actual’ weight.

Instead, if you care about weighing less or more, then your goal should be to identify patterns of steady increases in weight/weight loss rather than set point each week.

Two weeks out from the 1/2 marathon at the @mountrobsonmarathon. ⁠⠀

Am I feeling as ready as I did for Ottawa in May? Not even close. Am I putting unnecessary pressure on myself to jam in as much last minute training as I can. Nope. ⁠⠀

Why? I find it challenging to train for summer races. While I may have the best of intentions, vacations, a hectic month at work, a few aches and pains and a few sleep-in mornings have me feeling sort-of ready for this race at best🤷🏼‍♀️⁠⠀

In the same way that I don't apply black and white attitudes to my own eating habits and those who I work with, I use a lot of self-compassion when it comes to physical activity in sports. ⁠⠀

On race day I plan to run my best for that day and enjoy the spectacular scenery on the amazing Berg Lake Trail. Can't wait!⁠⠀

1⃣ Get colourful -think variety, start with a base of greens (lettuce, spinach, rocket or cabbage) then build from there including whatever veggies you have in the fridge. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
2⃣ Make sure you've got some protein -leftover shredded chicken, canned tuna or salmon, soft boiled eggs, tofu or lentils all work well and help keep you full.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
3⃣ Get grainy -no rabbit food salads over here! Including a fist-sized amount of carbs like brown rice, quinoa, bulgar wheat, lentils or starchy veggies like roasted sweet potato can help you feel more satisfied + they give you a sustained source of fuel for the arvo ahead. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I often see people complaining about “needing to stop eating crap” and I guess I imagine this is the sort of thing they might have in mind.

Sure, some things are so delicious that they’re easy to over consume if you’re not a little bit mindful... but if you’re suitably active and suitably motivated you can certainly fit a slightly indulgent choice into your daily plan, if your plan is to hit an adequate total intake that actually reflects your requirements, you’ll be satisfied with a modest serve and not end up over doing it.

Now, who’s smart & confident enough to work something particularly delicious into tomorrow’s plan?

Gorgeous day to Tri in the Whitsundays!
Sun poking though the clouds made for cooler temps at this years Tri.
No racing today for me after racing the Olympic distance last weekend at Townsville with a 3rd placing in my age group. Just cheering for friends today.
