We were greeted in Valencia by @carmenmccv5 and a free public concert followed by THE most impressive fireworks I've ever seen...
The city offers an interesting mix of culture and architecture. Even though it's right next to the Mediterranean Sea, it's charm mostly comes from the city center with its narrow streets and massive medieval buildings, which is not particularly close to the beach. You'll find cosy bars with a great food selection around every corner, like the "Work in Progress". One of the highlights is the former river Tùria which was redirected some centuries ago after a huge flood and now forms a long and wide park right through the city that can be used to get quickly and hassle-free with your bike around.
It also links the charming old city center with the stunning "City of Arts and Science". The spacious design with wide walkways, the smart use of water and the high rising buildings form a combination where you can easily spend half a day just strolling around without entering the buildings.
Two more recommendations... If you want a relaxed day at the beach head a few kilometers north to Port Saplaya and stroll through the channels which gives the town its nickname 'Little Venice'. For an amazing Paella Valenciana go to La Alegría de la Huerta on the northern part of Playa de la Malvarrosa.
We've definitely enjoyed our short trip of 5 days and 4 nights especially because @carmenmccv5 really took good care of us :) Gracias!
