‘Weight loss’ options 🙄
So recently I’ve been asked how I feel about things like BooTea, Skinny Coffee Club and Herbalife - all the brands that pride themselves on being ‘weight loss methods’. I think you’ll find my face expresses exactly how I feel about them.
Skinny Coffee Club claims to burn fat and increase energy amidst other ‘benefits’. Fun fact - coffee is a natural appetite suppressant full of caffeine, which by its very nature increases energy.
BooTea is ‘to be used alongside a healthy calorie restricted diet’ and is said to ‘support your goals’. The main ingredient in the nighttime tea used to be Senna leaves which give a laxative effect, so as far as I can see the only added weight loss benefit comes from an enhanced loss of poop!
Last but not least, Herbalife (and C9, juice plus and any other drink based diet). The calorie controlled diet using meal replacement shakes, a multivitamin/mineral and a ‘metabolism boosting supplement’. Yep, go ahead. Have a 300 calorie drink rather than a nutrient rich fresh healthy meal. Yes, you’ll see it work very quickly because you’ll be eating FAR too few calories, but you’re more likely to struggle to stick to the same, boring drinks every day and once you return to your regular diet you’ll find the weight returns quickly.
There is no magic drink or secret pill you can take for weight loss, it’s all about calorie deficit. You have to burn more calories than you consume, but you also have to make sure you’re eating enough so your body doesn’t panic and hold on to every calorie you consume.
