Got tight shoulders? Have trouble working in an overhead position? 🤷‍♂️ Kettlebell Halos are a great way to improve shoulder mobility, thoracic mobility, and core stability at the same time! 👊 If you don't have access to a kettlebell, use a plate instead! .

We’re going to show you some different variations of the KB Halo in a kneeling, half-kneeling, and standing position to challenge those shoulders and add some proprioceptive balance challenges as well! 💪

1️⃣ Some key tips to consider with this exercise: .

🔹Keep the elbows tucked in and nice and close to the body all the way around the head
🔹Ensure that the kettlebell stays as close to the base of the neck as possible
🔹The closer you can keep the kettlebell to your neck the more you will work on improving your shoulder mobility

2️⃣ Here are some common mistakes with the KB Halo:

First self-practice on the Arm/Baby Chair tonight. Working on lifting through my center, and keeping my shoulders and back connected to the chair back as I move the chair forward. While this looks simple in a photo, it’s a killer!! My shoulders and upper back are very challenged here to stay open and connected to the chair. It’s a great exercise to practice after a day in front of the computer to reverse rounding through the upper back.

Shoulder opening and strengthening continues. This version of #shalabhasana aka #swimmingshalabhasana #locustpose is a great way to build strength. Additionally, it’s a great way to increase awareness of your shoulder girdle. I will focus on the  shoulder blades (scapulas). We often hear the cue move your shoulder blades down your back. This cue is appropriate at certain times, at other times we want to allow our shoulder blades to move, specifically upwardly rotate as this is healthy movement of the shoulder girdle. When your arms are in the overhead plane (extended overhead) you want to allow your shoulder blades to move. 
Lie down and grab the block between your hands. Lift your arm pits up and spin your elbow creases and biceps towards the ceiling slightly to externally rotate your upper arms. Lift your arms and legs up. Take the block in 1 hand and reach it behind your back, then take the other hand back and grab the block. In this position it is appropriate to squeeze your shoulder blades towards each other and down your back, you can see how this gives me more lift. After a few breaths take the block in 1 hand, allow that shoulder blade to upwardly rotate as you take your arm back in the overhead plane. Take the second arm overhead allowing the shoulder blade to upwardly rotate and grab the block and lift again. I find this exercise really helps to tune students in to the movement of their shoulder blades leave questions below! Inspired by @yoga_international

I love "Flip-Grip" posture so much, not only because it can effectively open the heart and shoulder in terms of therapeutic mechanism, but also because it is always combined with backbend --- I love the bending beauty together with graceful & elegant Flip-Grip posture.

This isn’t just the required pose of Virabhadrasana III but also an interesting shift. Balance has always been stronger on my right side in about any pose. But lately I’m feeling things shift balancewise and today my left side is definitely more stable. This is no accident as I’m consciously trying to balance both sides out. Carmen advises us often to practice poses once more on the weaker side and that makes such a huge difference.

For tomorrow day 8, please add a flipped grip. This is not an easy one, but remember you can use props like a strap or get creative (hint:  forearm wheel is totally a flipped grip don’t you think?? 🤔 ). I can’t wait to see what you decide to share. This one legged king pigeon pose variation is one of my favorites because the behind the back bind to opposite foot helps open my shoulders and makes the flipped grip feel so much easier. Have you tried this one? I know it looks twisted up but it you might be surprised and maybe it feels easier to you too. .

I'm starting the day number 9 of my #roadtopincha with a short but lovely meditation.

This is a very difficult year for all of us in Argentina specially, and still missing, in case it was not enough, the last quarter of the year, when the personal "balances" begin... preparing for the end of thid cycle, new year, holidays...
There are no light times, but we can each in their own space, help a little to make the road more walkable.
Do what we do, the best we can.
Love what we are and what we do.
Heal what we can heal to relieve baggage.
Forgiveus and forgive what we can, from compassion to ourselves and those around us.
Propose short and possible goals, so as not to get frustrated every moment.
Dream big dreams, to stay connected with magic and the Great Spirit.
When one heals, we all heal.
And we are walking on that... each in their own way, at their own space, in their time.

Es un año muy complicado para todos, y aun nos falta recorrer y transitar... y por si fuera poco, el inicio del último trimestre del año,donde empiezan los balances personales, pensar en fiestas y vacaciones... en lo que nos propusimos y pudimos conseguir o no.
No son tiempos livianitos, pero podemos cada uno en su ámbito y desde su propio espacio ayudar un poquito a que sea mas transitable.
Hacer lo que hacemos, lo mejor que podemos.
Amar lo que somos y lo que hacemos.
Sanar aquello que podemos sanar para aliviar el equipaje.
Perdonarnos y perdonar lo que podamos, desde la compasión a nosotros mismos y a quienes nos rodean.
Proponernos metas cortas y posibles, para no frustrarnos a cada rato.
Soñar suenos grandes, para mantenernos conectados con la magia y el Gran Espiritu.
Cuando sana uno, sanamos todos...
Y en eso andamos, cada uno a su manera, a su ritmo, a su tiempo.

It’s shoulder week! I’m giving the neck and shoulders some love in classes for the next few days. Love love love this shoulder opener.... It’s an interesting one to instruct - sometimes people get it, sometimes they end up in knots! Basic, and scroll for advanced... And if you want to try it come to my Yin classes at Pure Gym Leeds North (Thu 19:30) or @iveridgehall (Fri 18:30) 😉

This is a superb way to stretch out the chest, shoulder, ribs, spine and hips - a really great all-rounder, and using it in a Yin practice has great benefits from staying in it for 3 minutes - tense muscles release after 60 seconds in a stretch, so longer in this pose gives a more beneficial and deeper release. It’s shoulder week! I’m giving the neck and shoulders some love in classes for the next few days. Love love love this shoulder opener.... It’s an interesting one to instruct - sometimes people get it, sometimes they end up in knots! Basic, and scroll for advanced... And if you want to try it come to my Yin classes at Pure Gym Leeds North (Thu 19:30) or @iveridgehall (Fri 18:30) . This is a superb way to stretch out the chest, shoulder, ribs, spine and hips - a really great all-rounder, and using it in a Yin practice has great benefits from staying in it for 3 minutes - tense muscles release after 60 seconds in a stretch, so longer in this pose gives a more beneficial and deeper release. Day 8 of #roadtopincha. My first straight pincha! Can't get the smile off of my face. Yesterday I tried but was really tired and couldn't engage my legs and core the right way. Learning to be patient with my body and my inner rhythms 😊

Beautiful Sunday sunshine 🌞 took advantage of the fresh air by getting out in the yoga trapeze. The stiff wind definitely made it more challenging! Worked on trying different shoulder openers and using the trapeze to work on handstand. Lots of burning shoulder work today!

But that’s okay because that’s exactly why it’s a great warm up and mood booster. I love to teach a similar version from Down Dog because everyone in class giggles and loosens up. Wheel Pose makes me really work for that feeling of happiness. Yes, backbends are my happy place and the feeling afterwards is unparalleled but Wheel is a tough pose no matter how long you practice it. Additionally this is the only pose that makes me really self-conscious in pictures. I tend to see all the issues and areas in need of improvement and get really critical if I don’t restrict such thinking. But this is why this pose is a great teacher of what yoga is really about: harnessing the monkey mind and releasing old patterns. I’m learning practice by practice from this tough teacher and enjoying the short term gratifications of post yoga bliss. Because all this heart opening really leaves you so happy afterwards.

So last week in the naturally lean post, I mentioned that I was going to design a new workout plan that focused on weightlifting for the #ectomorph and increase my calories with the goal of muscle gains. Well it’s been a week and let me tell you how that worked out NOT TOO WELL. Now I did workout. I did lift. I did eat. But it wasn’t anywhere near enough on all fronts. So what went wrong?

🤯 I got overwhelmed planning out the exercises and didn’t finish creating the plan.
🥦 I didn’t meal prep on Sunday.
🥤 I didn’t make shakes daily.
👫 I didn’t ask anyone to support me or hold me accountable.

Knowing all that, what can I do differently this week?

This is some weird shoulder mobility work I like to do on the cable machine. Stretches my #serratusanterior, back and triceps. It feels guuuuuuuuuud.

This is one of my favorite chest, heart & shoulder openers. You want to get your hips over your knees and walk your palms out to the top of the mat. Settling your chest and forehead down to the earth. When you’re shoulders are open enough you’ll find great ease and be able to rest your chin on the mat.

This is one of my favorite shoulder stretches ever! And it only requires 5 yoga blocks 😜 (or 1 yoga block and a bench or chair or other surface that you can place your elbows on)
. . .
When might you want to practice this stretch? When you’re looking to increase your overhead range of motion - which we need for poses like wheel (urdhva dhanurasana), handstand, down dog, etc.
. . .
Holding a block between your hands, place your elbows on 2 stacks of 2 blocks each - or on the edge of a bench or chair seat.
. . .
Then keeping your front ribs contained, press your chest toward the floor until you feel a shoulder stretch. Then lift back up and repeat a few more times.
. . .
On your last round, settle in for awhile and hold here. At first, actively push your hands into the block to light up some excellent shoulder engagement while in the stretch.
. . .
After a few breaths of this active stretch, release that push and just enjoy your well-deserved passive shoulder stretch for a few breaths.

Then slowly rise back up and appreciate your like-new shoulders! 💙

Improve your shoulder mobility and your handstand line.

You know it already - keeping your body vertical during a handstand makes it easier.

As soon as the weight is stacked on top of your support, the handstand becomes almost weightless and this is great.

This exercises will help you open your shoulders and also allow you to practice core activation while your arms are over your head.

Lats and Chest stretch (foam roller)

1. From a kneeling position, place your hands on a foam roller in front of you.

2. Lean forward and push your chest towards the floor (performing a couple of small bounces will help you go deeper)

3. Make sure you keep your hips above your knees and your abdominal muscles are engaged.

4. During the down and up movement, maintain your spine neutral by engaging your core muscles.

This Cow face pose with eagle arms is great for stretching the upper back and shoulders, improving posture and strengthening the spine. This stretch also helps to open up your hips and stretches the ankles and thighs. .
You can see that I have some muscle imbalances to work on. Haven’t been doing as much yoga/stretching as I usually do and I can definitely tell. My shoulders, hips and lower back are ridiculously tight. This is very common for anyone who sits for long periods of time or for those that are chronically ill/pain due to staying in the fetal position for extended period of time. Subconsciously you can also be drawing your shoulders inward aka slouching without realizing it, creating a downward slope in your shoulders. .
Going to be working on opening up my shoulders and hips more to help relieve some
•pressure
•tightness
•increase blood flow
•reduce nerve pain from impingement
.
Good posture isn’t just for the dinner table and it can have a bigger impact on your day to day than you know.

Noche de sábado...practiqué esta mañana y me atreví con algo que no había hecho nunca y que vi hace poco a una de mis yoguis favoritas...
No tiene nada q ver mi vídeo a como lo hace ella...pero quería probar si era capaz de mantener el equilibrio y tirar un poquito de espalda.Al hacerlo me di cuenta que no solo requiere lumbares...hay q abrir la cadera para echar la posición del loto lo más atrás posible.Es la vez que más he notado que forzaba mi espalda y mi cadera porq el equilibrio lo mantenía bien.
Ya veis a donde llego con mis piernas pero haciéndolo tenía la impresión de que mis rodillas llegaban a estar atrás en la horizontal de lo q tiraba de espalda y cadera!!!!💪🏼💪🏼
Por supuesto me sujetan los hombros y los abro lo máximo posible...
La asana es con la cabeza metida...siempre más difícil q con la cabeza para afuera...
He acabado mi práctica contenta al ver lo conseguido...aunq si miro el vídeo de @yogapersondoingyoga ... no llega ni a compararse...😩😩
