A morning spent wandering through Dylan Lewis' sculpture garden; my second time visiting.
The first time...I will admit I found it all a bit much. I've never had an intrinsic love of more contemporary art, but I think perhaps after visiting the Tate Modern - which I confess was 3 hours of near total drudgery - and seeing the...stuff that they call art, I've been better able to appreciate genuine artistry.
Now I am genuinely amazed by some of Dylan Lewis' sculptures, both for their beautiful range of dynamic and intriguing postures and for his ability to represent subtleties of form and expression in such a rough and texturous style.
His anthropomorphic pieces, though not all to my tastes, do draw me in because of my own interest in the anthropomorphic/furry concept. One in particular always begs a few minutes of my attention.
During this visit I didn't focus on the descriptions and stories, but instead spent my time analysing the sculptures and endeavoring to capture them from the perspective/perspectives which best represented the emotion or sensation which each conveyed to me. It was an interesting little experiment and gave me a much greater appreciation for the artist's skill and talent.
It was a special joy too, to walk through such beautiful gardens, enjoying the deep colours and pleasing scents brought out by the rain.
I definitely recommend to anyone who visits, that you take your time in exploring and experiencing the gardens - and allow yourself to see the humour as well as the seriousness in some of the pieces.
