Is your cookware safe?
The safest types are ceramic or cast iron. Personally, I use and love @lecreuset because they are high quality, last a lifetime, versatile, easy to clean and retain the heat. I first tried it a year ago and I am now a customer for life! I get to enjoy properties of cast iron without the maintenance requirements! Before LeCreuset, I used stainless steel.
Many people believe stainless steel is best – but is this true? Not necessarily. That’s because it is not 100% Stainless Steel. In fact, it likely consists of iron, nickel and chromium along with differing percentages of molybdenum, titanium, copper and vanadium. Why is this significant? Because, it leeches into your food (especially during longer cooking times, like for broths and stews). The iron, aluminum and nickel are especially harmful as they accumulate in the body (soft tissue) and cause neurological issues and other symptoms. .
Check the bottom of your cookware, and you might see the numbers 18/8 or 18/10, the first number indicates the cookware is 18% chromium and the second, 8%/10% corresponds to the nickel content. These two metals give the Stainless Steel its rust-free and shiny look. Since the leeching of Nickel causes more issues than Chromium, the safest Stainless Steel is 18/0, like that of @faberwarecook or @GunterWilhelm. You can actually test your cookware very simply. Use any magnet you have, if it sticks firmly to the cookware, then its good quality. If you prefer to use ceramic cookware, then I recommend @Xtrema. Be sure, to recycle your damaged stainless steel, as aluminum is placed in between stainless steel layers and will leech.
Yesterdays colorful side dish was cooked in about 15 mins using my @lecreuset. This recipe is so great as a side or main meal for any dish! The turmeric is anti-inflammatory and the antioxidants from the veggies abundant! Bonus – its extremely easy to make!
