The American Motorcyclist Association has made a ruling regarding CBD sponsorships. The AMA has done so many things for motorcyclist for many years it’s hard to disagree with any decision they make. In fact it’s fair to say I wouldn’t be able to do what I do without them. They fight for the rights of riders and create many of events for amateur and pro racing across the United States. With all that being said today I disagree with this ruling. I don’t do drugs of any kind and I’m a social drinker and while I think it’s not ok for riders to drugs, the advertisement side of this is what gets me. Companies like Winston and Camel ran the world in the 80s and I’m 100% sure Ricky Johnson and David Bailey didn’t smoke cigarettes. I’m 100% sure Jeff Ward didn’t drink a 12 pack on miller mountain. I’m concerned for the sport of motorcycle racing.....I’m concerned for the teams, riders and amateurs that maybe sitting at home this year because they aren’t allowed to be sponsored by a billion dollar CBD company. I believe this ruling is a society ruling and I believe it’s very unfair. How can we bring new riders, new teams and new sponsors to the sport we all love without new ideas. I don’t use CBD it may have long lasting effects that are good or maybe bad. Did Winston Cigarettes have good or bad effects ???? Did Everyone take the money ???? If companies are willing to get involved, I say let’s do it!!!! It doesn’t mean the riders have to use it, it’s a promotional tool for that company that keeps riders and teams in our sport.
