A few days before I left for France I realized that I hadn’t even considered dieting. In years past, I’d always restrict for a few weeks leading up to a vacation. And it didn’t matter if it was a beach vacation (requiring a bikini) or a ski trip.

I’d restrict because I always thought of vacations as a free pass to eat an unlimited amount of food for days/weeks on end. I wanted to be extra good to earn the right to be extra bad. And when I got home I’d feel so guilty I’d immediately go back on a diet.

My vacation mentality was a binge and restrict cycle. Over time the vacation eating got more out of control and the diets became more difficult to maintain.

This time around, I didn’t subject myself to any ridiculous food rules before traveling. And, while traveling, I’ll didn’t force myself to eat food I wasn’t excited about/hungry for just because it was there. What a refreshing change!

We’re headed home today - back to work and reality. But NOT back to dieting!

Simple. Healthy. Balanced. And packed with flavour!
✔️wholewheat couscous (1/3 cup raw mass) seasoned with dried herbs and mixed with 1/3 cup haricot beans to lower the GI and increase soluble fibre content. I have added 2/3 cup of this combination (cooked mass) to my plate
✔️1 1/2 cup of cooked stir-fried vegetables (I combined snow peas, baby marrow and red cabbage)
✔️90g cooked chicken breast, cut into strips and seasoned with some chicken spice
✔️1 teaspoon of canola oil for cooking purposes
✔️dressed with some freshly squeezed lemon and ground black pepper

✨TRUTH: Sometimes dietitians will give meal plans to educate clients on what foods may work to reach their goals. However, we understand that a meal plan will not always fit with your lifestyle. You are the one who know better than anyone what you feel like eating that week, how much time you have to cook and shop, what ingredients you already have in your fridge/freezer/pantry and what events you have on that week that mean you won’t be eating at home. Meal plans often prove to be unrealistic and unattainable in the long term. They don’t provide you with the knowledge to make your own informed decisions. Instead, dietitians work to build behaviour change & healthy eating habits.

Páteční konzultace s klientkou mě přiměla se zamyslet a vytvořit tohle #nutricniokenko, do oranžova laděné🧡 Mléčné výrobky jsou skvělým zdrojem bílkovin a vápníku. Jsou ale vhodné všechny? Ne tak docela. Konzumovat bychom měli hlavně ty bílé, neochucené. Ochucené jsou zbytečným zdrojem cukru a tedy i kalorií navíc. V balení meruňkového kefíru je 50 g cukru, přitom mnozí ho na svačinu vypijí celý a ještě mají radost, jak prospívají svému zdraví🙂 Tak vám to trochu zkazím😀 Stejné množství cukru má 0,5 l sladké limonády. Síla, co?😉 Pokud máte s bílými výrobky problém, zkuste do nich přidat ovoce (využijte toho, co nám léto přináší 🍓🍑🍒), ovocné pyré bez cukru, trochu holandského kakaa nebo čekankového sirupu @cekankovy_sirup, ten jediný tvoří výjimku mezi sirupy. Čím si moc nepomůžete jsou naopak sladké džemy a marmelády, agávové či datlové sirupy apod. So, that got me thinking. What are three quick tips I can give newbie private practice dietitians to decking out their offices? ⠀

Know your audience. ⠀
⠀
Thank god for me 98 percent of all my patients are women. You see, I specialize in PCOS and weight loss. So, while I occasionally see the dude here or there most of my patients are women. Therefore, while I love the way I have decorated my office - more importantly my patients love how I have decorated my audience. They are who is most important. So make sure your office is decked out to suit the needs and likes are your patient population. ⠀

Make it comfortable. ⠀
⠀
I confess in addition to having what I would consider a super pretty office - I also have a super pretty home. But guess what? There is not a damn thing in my entire house (aside from my bed!) that is comfortable. Because you are going to be crushing it in private practice - you are going to be spending a lot of time in your office. So make sure it is comfortable for both you and your patients. Don’t buy the chair that perfectly matches your office color scheme - but the one that you will be sitting in hours on end. Also make sure, if you are like me and counsel overweight patients that your chairs for your clients are not only comfortable but your patients can get in out of with ease. ⠀

Shop the mother load at Homegoods. ⠀
⠀
If you don’t love Homegoods there is a good chance you and me can’t be friends. But seriously! There is nothing you really can’t get at Homegoods for your office. From desks, to chairs and rugs, even to adorable notepads and file cabinets Homegoods has it all. Plus, the prices are super reasonable! ⠀

Many people view old relationships as failures, or triumphs.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Before I met Matt, I had several relationships that didn't end up working out. There are 4 people from my past (whose names I will keep under wraps) that I had long and entirely incredible relationships with. Did they all end in heart break and tears? Yes, but this does not mean they were a failure. In fact, they were all triumphs. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

They all came into my life at the exact time that I needed them. They all taught me exactly what I needed to learn from them. And then we parted ways at the exact  moment that we were no longer the best option for one another. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Now, I am the woman that I am in part because of them. I wouldn't trade a single day with any of them. Because they helped shape the woman I am today. The woman that Matt loves, the woman that is aware of what it means to be a good partner, and the woman who is courageous enough to pick up her life and move across an ocean when she finds her perfect partner.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
