Happy Father’s Day to my father who left us almost 13 years ago. My father struggled with major depression for much of my life (and probably long before I arrived), though I didn’t know this until I was old enough to look back and reflect with greater knowledge of how complex this mental illness can be.
There are many musical artists my father and I listened to together. To name just a few: Johnny Cash, John Denver, Jimmy Buffet, The Beatles and (if you rose lovers you haven’t guessed the name of this rose yet) Neil Diamond.
To this day I will tune to Neil Diamond radio on Pandora or Spotify (no more cassettes or records sadly) to enjoy some nostalgic tunes and remember the better times of my father and I when I was a child.
Forget Sweet Caroline, that’s for amateurs. Tune to Love On the Rocks, Forever in Blue Jeans, Stones, Solitary Man, Play Me... I can still picture me and my dad singing along together riding in his Jeep.
I had been eyeing this rose for some time and I chanced upon it at a local nursery and I had to take it home. So here he is in his glory. In memory of my father, a more sensitive man than I ever knew while he was alive.
If you or someone you know is in need of help please contact a suicide hotline or reach out to someone around you. You ARE important. You ARE loved. You MATTER ️
