Here's my "douche" Instagram picture. I've noticed a lot of men being shamed due to posting pictures of them being proud of their bodies, which is paradoxical to our times when we're seemingly progressive and sensitive to positive body image and mental health.
I exercise regularly due to the psychological benefits. Did you know that exercising regularly works down to a chromosomal level? Exercising and increasing your heart rate also increases neuroplasticity, which protects against the onset of depression; hence the euphoric mood people typically report after a workout. Neuroplasticity relates to how the brain rebuilds circuits and generates neurons when we are forced to adapt to changes, as well as recovering from trauma.
In a side by side analysis, exercise of 30 minutes, 3 times per week, proved to be more effective towards depression than Zoloft.
According to clinical psychologist Stephen Ilardi, he believes that if regular exercise could be put in pill form, it would outsell every pill on the market.
