Do you know that there is a place in Taiwan where you can see a big peacock on the street?
When the typhoon Dann attacked Kinmen in 1999, the roof of the peacock raised in the Animal Production Test Institute of the Kinmen County was blown away. As a result, these blue peacocks flew out. Yes, the peacocks can fly! Because there are no predator in Kinmen, peacocks have been bred for nearly 20 years. Now there are nearly 1,800 wild peacocks on the island.
These peacocks usually rest in groups on the trees. When they are hungry, they will steal crops such as sorghum, sweet potatoes, peanuts, etc. These oversized birds cause agricultural damage, car accidents, flight safety concerns of Jinmen Shangyi Airport and local ecology balance. As a result, Kinmen County government rewards each peacock with NT$600 encouraging residents to catch peacocks. OK, anyone wanna go with me? -
