How do you manage your busy seasons? I’m currently in the thick of one— lots of late nights & (what feel like) endless to-do lists. I know these times come in waves & often are a time for growth & new energy but it’s hard to see the light at the end when you’re deep in the throes of them. As someone who craves slow living my automatic rhythm & tendencies conflict with that yearning. I’m a naturally “busy minded” person, my brain never seems to stop & it feels like whenever I find a moment of margin my head comes up with dozens of new tasks, goals & ideas. It’s a constant straddle between my head & my heart. These 3 things help me tend to my need for slow living while in the weeks of busy:
1. Having something on the horizon to look forward too. My husband & I are headed back to Tulum in October (where we went for our honeymoon!) to celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary & it is helpful to know a time of complete rest is coming + it’s a wonderful place for my mind to go when I need a moment of mental retreat. I’m saving this month’s @skylar scent club for that trip & keeping it on my desk as a little reminder of the salt air days ahead (plus using the bookmark they come with as the same reminder!).
2. I like to pick out a book I’ve really wanted to read & dig in. I know that feels counterproductive but I don’t just sit & read & put everything aside— rather I find myself more intentional & focused with my tasks so that I can have a few extra minutes to indulge in a book each day. When your mind is buzzing it’s also a great way to slow it down before bed. I finally want to sink my teeth into Joyful!
3. I amp up my routines. By setting routines my daily & weekly actions become less things that require headspace & my actions & decisions can somewhat run on autopilot. - 18 minutes ago
