This morning on my drive to work I saw an older gentleman take a tumble along the side of the road.
He was not able to get up, and I immediately pulled over. At the same time, two other cars stopped and one of them asked me to call 9-1-1.
As I was speaking to the dispatcher, I realized the other person assisting the gentleman was wearing scrubs and now with medical gloves, was tending to his cuts with gauze... she was a home care nurse and knew exactly how to help someone with a fresh injury.
As she was asking him all of the right questions, while I called the man’s wife and waited for the ambulance.
As the paramedics and the man’s wife arrived we all proceeded about our days, knowing he would be ok.
Some might say it was a coincidence that a nurse, knowing how to respond to injuries, was driving by at the same time as a family therapist, experienced in crisis management.
However, if I’ve been learning anything on the journey that I’m on, it’s that there are no coincidences.
@daniellemercurio recently told me:
“It’s not odd, it’s God”
Whether it’s a god, the universe, or a source energy, there’s something bigger than us.
Something smarter and stronger.
While that can be a terrifying or controversial concept, I’m finding it comforting.
Whatever this source energy is, it’s intention is to support us. It’s there to help us and give us strength that we don’t have on our own.
Yes there are devastating, tragic, and horrifying things that happen, and I don’t have the explanations, reasons, or answers.
But I do know that too many of us are relying on our own strength, and that’s when we feel defeated.
We beat ourselves up trying to solve all of the problems or find all of the answers.
These are the moments we need to fall back.
Fall back on our faith, and accept the support that is always there.
We learn to trust by trusting.
We don’t have to know how, we just have to trust that it’s going to work out the way it’s supposed to. .
