Suddenly the garden bed is filled with "mean green fighting machines" (broccoli is a champ!) BTW, we are a broccoli eating family. I don't think there is a way it could be prepared that we wouldn't love. Raw, steamed, sauteed, grilled, roasted...you name it, we've tried it.
In the past (and still too frequently even recently), we've bought frozen from the grocery store. And more times than not, we had thought we were living the good life by buying grocery store fresh (now there's an oxymoron!) ...wow! Were we fooled!
A few years ago when I grew it for the first time in our garden, we couldn't believe the difference! Garden broccoli is like nothing else. Perhaps soaking it in the briny water to rid it of little bugs is the cause of its incredible flavor? I don't know. Maybe it's just that garden fresh everything is just ALWAYS better, no matter what the veggie/fruit.
It is my goal for this fall/winter to have even more beds than before planted with broccoli to get us through a major part of the winter. And that means...it's just about sowing time! - 1 day ago
