Can you imagine the stress and fear a mother is faced with when the responsibility of raising two small children is all on her - especially with the added challenge of a high-needs child that requires 24-hour care?
This is the situation Erin has found herself in.
Erin has two children: four-year-old Quentin, and two-year-old Louis (📸 pictured) who has Fragile X Syndrome, a condition that results in delayed development and requires 24-hour care. Looking after her two small children means that Erin isn’t able to work, and so she is reliant on limited government allowances to get by. The boys’ father is no longer involved, and so Erin is left to care for and financially support the boys all on her own, struggling to provide everything they need.
And sometimes, that means making impossible decisions.
When her pram broke earlier this year, Erin felt helpless. Louis cannot yet walk, and so Erin is reliant on the pram to get him around. Louis’ condition also requires regular two-hour return trips to Brisbane for medical appointments, and the petrol and parking can be very expensive and put a lot of strain on Erin’s extremely tight budget. Often, Erin is faced with the impossible decision of using her limited money on petrol to get Louis to his appointments, or other essentials like nappies and wipes.
That’s why we are so pleased that Erin’s caseworker contacted Baby Give Back, because we were able to give Erin a new pram and a safe car seat for Louis immediately, and have been able to provide her with other essential items since.
But we only able to help Erin due to the support of kind people like yourself. So please, will you donate to Baby Give Back today and help families that are desperately in need this Christmas? You can donate securely online here: http://bit.ly/helpBGB
No child should be without the essentials like nappies, wipes, a safe car seat or pram this Christmas. But sadly, many will be. You can help us change that.
