The man himself! Our Leadership in Digital Context Professor has been kind enough to share his experiences with social media and tell us a little bit about how different platforms have impacted his life.
Professor Nesi has been able to use social media to connect with teachers and people in and out of education that he normally would not have access to in his day to day work life.
He uses social media platforms to create and promote ideas and he believes he is able to make at least a small dent in the world of education by voicing his outlook on various topics that surround education. Without social media he would not have the ability to reach out to as many people as he would like and share his opinion to the endless amount of internet goers.
Like most people, a challenge that Mr. Nesi faces is the ability to speak as freely and openly as he may want to on topics he is passionate about. Because it is his duty as a public employee (teacher/part-time lecturer) he must uphold a presence as a leader on and off the web. He says he has a responsibility to the people he works with, and he plans to continue to sustain his image as a leader when it comes to the content he posts on social media. Although this can be seen as a challenge, he says he is okay with not sharing every view and opinion he has on a public platform. Being a history teacher, he often comes across topics covering government and politics. He makes sure that he does not lead with his political affiliation, but rather open the minds of his students using a neutral approach.
Professor Nesi considers himself to be a role model and inspirational figure his students and other educators can count on. His advice for those looking to use social media as an impactful platform is to leverage the platform. “It is easy to retweet and share other’s content, however it is important to put your voice, message, ideas, and perspectives out there. Whatever you are passionate about or interested in, you should put yourself out there and BE ORIGINAL”. As a podcaster, his realization to use his voice, opinions, and perspectives were valuable so he began to share them on his podcast platform. - 2 hours ago
