Question: Where in Philadelphia can you purchase a classic Italian hoagie and a fresh pair of Timberland boots?
Answer: Ricci's Hoagies
That's right, "Iemme get a 12 inch Italian hoag and a size 12 nubuck waterproof Timberland.. and do you take debit card? no? okay let me take out some cash real quick"
Work boots aside, Ricci's Hoagies brings a ton of history. Family owned and operated since 1920. If you can count, that means they are coming up on 100 years of slingin' classic Italian hoagies. ONE HUNDRED YEARS. That's right, Women were getting the right to vote, then coming here to celebrate with a classic Italian hoagie. @hoagie_dom loves history.
This place sets the bar high for the classic Italian. Very high. And they got a bunch of 'Best of Philly' awards to prove it.
I went with the 'Antipasta', which is essentially your classic Italian but with olive spread and what I like to call "pepper shooter provolone" crumbled on top. Great bread too, which is from Liscio's. They default orders to a nonseeded roll, but you have the option to go seeded. Always go seeded roll IMHO. Meats were sliced to ordered. No seats inside, but a few tables outside for that authentic South Philly al fresco dining experience.
Excellent hoagie. Sets the standard for all hoagies to be measured against. This is classic Philadelphia. Come for a healthy lunch, leave with some Timbs.
