Ever wondered what a pelvic physiotherapist will do for and with what? Read on
Pelvic therapists (usually PT’s or Physiotherapists but some are other disciplines too) specialize in helping you to achieve your pelvic health goals!
Many people are experiencing issues and have no idea there is help!
Here are just some of the things we can help you with:
Pee: leakage (any pee that comes out when you don’t want it to is leakage!), pain, difficulty urinating
Poo: leakage (any poo or gas that comes out when you don’t want it to), pain, constipation
Sex: pain, orgasm concerns, sensation and tone concerns etc.
Prolapse: vaginal bulging, heaviness, pressure
Pelvic pain: genitals, bladder, bowel, belly, tailbone, pelvis, hips and back!
Stability: core weakness, diatstasis recti.
Most HMOs in Nigeria cover 15 treatment sessions annually. You can sign up😁.
There are also many therapists offering in home visits as well as tele-health visits.
So what is pelvic PT? PT’s are functional movement specialists. Pelvic PT’s take that same knowledge of functional movement and apply it to the pelvic floor! We use many of the same interventions “regular” PT’s use including but not limited to:
-exercise (strengthening, stretching etc)
-hands on manual therapy
-pain relieving modalities (heat, ice, ultrasound etc)
-electrical stimulation for very weak muscles
-Biofeedback technology (similar to an EKG that lets you “see” your muscle activity on a computer screen)
-support device recommendations
-home program and home equipment recommendations
Consult a physiotherapist or pelvic therapist near you.
