My yoga teacher, guru, Dharma Mittra once told our training class about the power of a mantra. He said that some gurus can create a sort of protection zone that radiates out and envelopes anyone who is near and keeps them safe, all by repeating a specific mantra over and over again.
He said you can feel this energy when you are in their presence. I know I felt this energy whenever I was around Dharma. Taking his class and meditating while ambulances and taxis raced up and down the streets of Manhattan just outside the studio windows, and yet on the inside, we were calm and focused. He'd repeat a mantra for safety and protection sometimes in class and said that he'll continue to repeat it to himself silently throughout the day. For us lucky students he imparted this mantra and we learned the words so we could each individually benefit from it.
I felt this energy again when I visited Granada a few weeks ago. It's hard to explain but once I was in the city, all was well and a deep feeling of calmness came over me. I think it has something to do with being so near a sacred space such as the Alhambra. When you walk around the city streets, the palace is always in view at the top of the hill. The inside of the Alhambra is a mantra in and of itself. The details made of tile and alabaster in each room repeating beautifully into infinity. - 5 minutes ago
