A bit more about our journey to Hakone, known for its many ryokans. We took the "Romancecar", which is just the name of the limited express trains and not particularly anything sexy... Though the seats do disassemble and reassemble, so they face the other way when the train switches directions, which pretty much amazed Julian. Then we took the Hakone Tozan train (the only mountain railway in Japan) and transferred onto the tiny cable cars all the way up the mountain. A long journey, but totally worth it.
We LOVED our private onsen. Super minimalist and clean (lol), but we really appreciated being able to adjust the temperature of the water, especially in the biting weather. I also studied their website when booking our room so we could get maximum fall foliage from our balcony. Not a bad view to wake up to at all. - 6 hours ago
