Seated WALL ANGELS are one of the best mobility exercises for anyone struggling with bad posture or overhead lifts like the mighty Snatch. As you can see by my face, this is not an easy exercise for me. I do it every day though as an add-on to my existing mobility protocol. I have some limitations on my left shoulder due to an old injury and that shows... Here’s how to do this movement correctly:

1. Head, elbows and hands in contact with the wall - make sure these contact points remain throughout the entire exercise. Ideally use the back of the hands;
2. Lower back shouldn’t be too far away from the wall, ideally no more than the space of one to two fists; 
3. Slowly slide the arms up the wall just a few inches and then slide your arms back to the starting position. Repeat slowly  for about 10-15 repetitions or until you fatigue or feel pain.

Change the level of difficulty by attempting this exercise whilst standing up or squatting.

Pull ups. Not quite there yet? I got you girl (and guys!) 💪🏽 .
Yes you can try negatives, banded work and other closed chain exercises but if you’re still not getting close to being able to move your body weight, what do you do? .
Ta-dah! 1. Start with feet on the floor, hips tucked. 2. Brace the core. 3. Draw the scapulas down in towards your hips and focus on elevating your chest as you pull your body towards the rings. 4. Slooooowly release. .
As these start to get easier, elevate the feet on to a box or bench to progress. .

So you've just competed and you're trying to work out if you did well or not? Never fear, here is my unbiased guide to analysing your performance working from worst case scenario to best:
.
You bombed. Basically there is no light at the end of the tunnel, don't try and find any. You coach may disown you or if they're from the older generation gently encourage you to not come back.
.
You went 2/6. Absolute bin juice performance but at least you didn't bomb! Please note if you compete for Albania this is the best case scenario for you, no need to read any further.
.
You got 3/6, as Anatoly Dyatlov would say "3/6? not great, not terrible"
.
You got 4/6- Congratulations you did you job! Most likely you set at least 1 PB or were very close so feel free to take yesterday off training.
.
5/6 and we are entering demi god territory.  You nailed this comp, soon Abadjiev will come knocking asking for your secrets.  You may bask in this glory for 7 days.
.
6/6! You are a f*****g hero. Expect your club mates to organise you a homecoming parade on your return to the gym. All bin juice teammates are to address you as "your grace" for a minimum of 1 month.

Slow motion is a very useful tool for assessing your technique. Currently need to work on speed under the bar, a faster turnover and hitting full triple extension instead of cutting the pull short. It will come with time.

Good session today.

Officially first day of Prep for #gpcperthcup 
Bench and accessories.

As always hoping to build on all my lifts. Bench is by far my weakest and I have a lot of lagging points.

Being and extra 8kg now at 90kg BW I’m hoping to build my strength, technique and more efficient bench press performance.

Cool down in the treadmill for some steps.

This one also involves you lifting your feet off the floor at the same time as the chest, so we go into extension on the lumbar spine as well as the T-spine.

Execute the move as shown in the video, with the abs and glutes braced tightly before every rep. Shoulders are retracted from the start to the finish position of the movement.

In Strength and Conditioning (which is my field), there can be a big emphasis placed on doing Olympic Lifts (Picture 1). These are the Snatch (Sn) and the Clean and Jerk (CJ).
.
This is because weightlifters are seen to have the ideal physique and can produce huge amounts of Power. Naturally, if we want our athletes to look and perform like weightlifters, then they sound weightlift, right?
.
Wrong.
.
The reason weightlifters (not to get confused with people who go to the gym and lift weight, weightlifters compete in the sport of Weightlifting) look and perform like they do is because of 2 reasons:
1) They are vastly Powerful from their training
2) It's all they do
.
To get that Power, train for Power. But this doesn't mean do weightlifting. Nor should you, for 2 main reasons:
1) It takes a huge amount of time, physical strain and skill to lift big weights in Weightlifting
2) You can produce Power in other ways.
.
If the goal is Power production (which it is as a fighter), then weighted jumps will have the same result, without any of the problems (such as time, strain, etc).
.
A happy alternative is the weighted jump, specifically the weighted trap bar jump (Picture 2). This is because almost everyone can jump, and simply adding weight doesn't take any real skill. .
As a fighter, this means you get all the benefits of Power production, without burning yourself out, or learning a new skill that's just as complex as boxing (ie they're both Olympic sports, consider that for a moment...).

So, what to do? Grab yourself some weights and perform some jumps. The heavier you go, the harder it is on the body. So do 1, then rest. The aim is to maintain height, not to do the maximum number of jumps before your body breaks down. Don't do that.

New personal record today bench pressing 125 lbs- what a journey! That’s over 80% of my own body weight...😱... And it wasn’t a one rep max, I pushed three of them on a fourth set! .

It’s very challenging to get photos at the gym since it’s against their policy (totally get why) but what is important is what you can do with strength & power. It feels amazing to be strong!! Please hit me up if you want to pump some iron, master hand stand push ups, holds, Muay Thai, American boxing or hot yoga...always looking to share knowledge! 💪🏼💃🏻🙏.
