MY WIFE, ladies and gentlemen 🥰 // Danielle, you’re turning 30 today. Can’t believe I’ve nearly celebrated ten birthdays with you already •
But even before celebrating that first birthday with you, I saw something in you that belied your youth. Back then, I saw in you a sense of wisdom + discernment, indicated by the lasting friendships that you cultivated and your uncanny intuition to cut straight through the nonsense. I saw in you a servant’s heart, the way you always put others before yourself and how you chose to glorify Christ in every single thing you did. I saw in you a sense of peace, derived from an assurance in your identity as a child of God and in His purposes for you. •
I see you then and I see you now. And nothing much has changed.
I see you now, how much effort and time you invest in your children’s lives, in other people’s children’s lives. I see you now, how you readily climb into your son’s bed with him night after night, so he can drift off to sleep feeling secure and at peace. I see you now, how you repeatedly set aside your work when others ask for your help, particularly your impatient husband who apparently misplaces everything he owns. I see you now, how you’ve braced yourself when the fatigue of motherhood get to be too much…and yet you get it done anyway. Again and again and again. •
So while you may be turning 30 today, it very much feels like we are turning back the clock. Because almost nothing has changed. This is, at its very core, WHO YOU ARE. The girl I saw back at UCSD more than ten years ago, has been refined by fire to become a force to be reckoned with, but it was you all along. My life has been made better by you, and I thank God for allowing me to have been part of yours. •
Happy birthday, my wife. #30 #
