With that said, I have no shame. Not because I want the world to see what I used to look like naked, but because I don’t want another woman to go through what I did. Instead of doing a photo shoot before my bilateral mastectomy I chose to have my body kept forever in the form of a drawing. My beautiful friend @alanelevinsohn went out of her way to grant this wish for me and I will forever cherish it. Although I do not look like this now I’m oddly okay with it. I’m okay with my scars because they mean I am still alive. One year from now we will recreate this again as I am then when all of this is hopefully over. If you are a woman or a man; be thankful for your body. Be thankful for your curves and your shape. Be thankful for your nipples or the breast tissue in your chest. Check it often and check it thoroughly, because one day it may never be the same again. This drawing will be custom framed and hung in our home with pride. Nothing comes close to the feeling I have right at this minute staring at what once was, and being thankful for what is. Cancer took this image of what I was and drastically changed it to make me better. If you are in California, please check out her work if you want your shape memorialized as well. .
