Ladies tell me all the time that they want arms like mine. I admit, I like them too. .
But what I really should say in response is, "No, you dont".
The reason is because even WITH my genetics, which dictate that I don't store much fat on my upper body, the price I pay for this degree of definition is more than most people want to spend. .
First of all, you can't diet all the time. I spend quite a bit of time eating slightly (notice I said slightly) more than my body needs so that I can build muscle. And it doesn't matter how skinny you get, if you haven't got any muscle under the fat, you will never have any definition. .
Second, you HAVE to lift weights. I do 10 times more weightlifting than cardio. We're talking 6 days/week, about 10-20 sets per week for each muscle group. And every set hurts. Bad. .
Third, you can't eat whatever you want. I almost never get to eat pizza or fried food. No soda (I may occasionally have a Coke Zero). I eat 6-7 meals/day, 20-30 g of high quality protein per meal, my carbs come from things like sweet potatoes, rice, veggies and oats, and I have a cooler packed every single day with that day's meals. I spend every Sunday preparing every meal for the entire week and my fridge is packed with plastic containers. I literally arrange my weekend around meal prep. .
There are many days where I don't feel like meal prepping or my elbows hurt from doing heavy bicep curls or I feel like if I see one more chicken breast I'm going to sprout feathers. But for whatever reason, I've decided that this is who I am and so I pay the price. But I miss out on a lot, too. . .
Like I always say - everything is a trade-off, you just have to decide if it's a trade you're willing to make. .
