12. Na Trang
Further south from Quang Ngai (from our previous blog entry) is the more touristic Nha Trang; a coastal city and capital of Khánh Hòa Province at the south coast which is well known for its beaches (concidered one of the most beautiful in south east Asia), diving spots, surf and is surrounded by islands, attracting large numbers of backpackers from all over the world and getting equally popular amongst the Vietnamese people.
The main beach is long and curvy and has a promenade for nice strolls along the waterfront, eating fresh fish in one of the many restaurants or spend some nights in one of the hotels.
The nearby nature reserves on islands Hòn Mun y Hòn Tằm are excesible by boat and have coral reefs.
Being a coastal city, Nha Trang is a centre for marine science based at the Nha Trang Oceanography Institute
Amongst the numerous tourist activities that Na Trang offeres, the following will get you away from the beach:
Trí Nguyên Aquarium (an aquarium where hundreds of rare oceanic species are fed
Po Nagar Towers (a Cham temple tower founded sometime before 781 C.E)
Fun fact; The miss Universe Pageant was held here in 2008 in the Crown Convention Center followed by Miss Earth 2010.
