We are FEELING beings, when we are not feeling either in body, mind, or spirit we interpret this as a state of threat, we are not safe. We have more tension in our body, we are more anxious, we are operating from a place of fear.
When we feel the feels we decrease the threat and move from a place of safety, love, and calm.
We need to work on feeling the feels of our emotions AND of our body. Often times, starting this journey of FEELING can be easier if we began just feeling and sensing more with our body!
There is a great online tool where you can measure where you are starting with your sensory system so as you practice feeling more in different areas of your body you may feel a change. This tool maps your sensory homunculus! A depiction of how our brain interprets our sensory input. The guy on the right is “normal”.
The three people on the left are me and two friends. I love this so much because let me tell you a story about them!
• Me (on the left) I spend a lot of time barefoot and a lot of time using my hands, which is clearly represented, I had a back injury, and still don’t like to feel much there, as it is smaller then normal!
• The middle guy is my friend who is a baseball coach no surprise there is hounds and arms are huge as he spends a ton of time with a baseball, bat, or glove!
• The woman on the left is a friend who had just had a baby, yep, her head is the most represented, and if you talk to her or any woman post partum they do not FEEL like their body is theirs anymore but the baby’s.
These images blew my mind! 🤯 Want to check yours?

Then start to feeling and moving your body and doing body scans to check in with yourself to cultivate this awareness and sensing and see what changes you can make.
The better we can sense and move from a safe place the better we move and perform!
