THE BEST TEMPO FOR MUSCLE 💪💪 Changing tempo is an important aspect to building muscle.

Your next workout, I want you to try this:

Use a 4122 tempo. This means: lower the weight for 4 seconds, hold the stretched position for 1 second, contract the muscle and raise the weight for 2 seconds, and then hold the peak contraction for 2 seconds. That’s 1 rep! Do 3 sets of 8-12 reps like this and you will be super sore tomorrow.

The key to muscle growth is to use the mind-to-muscle connection. I want you to feel the muscle working, and contract the muscle as hard as possible.

And watch those wrist rockets!!

Do you struggle to feel your chest while pressing? Having a hard time feeling your lats when performing pulldowns? Can’t keep your traps out of a lateral raise? -

The cue of lifting your sternum up to the ceiling puts you into a position of thoracic extension. Or in layman’s terms your upper back is arched which in turn keeps your shoulder blades back and down. -

This anchors your shoulder joint. This anchoring means more stability at the shoulder joint. More stability means more force. More force means more muscle. -

When in this position you will almost undoubtedly have more feel in the target muscle. -

But what does this all mean? -

Well, to put it simply, more force placed correctly means you’ll get bigger and do it faster. -

Give it a try. Next time you perform a bench press (or almost any upper body movement for that matter) raise the sternum, keep it there and tell me you don’t feel it more. (You might have to drop the weight as your muscles won’t be used to taking that proportion of the weight!)

Higher fat breakfast than I'm used to for this hypertrophy phase. Mushrooms and tomatoes sautéed in butter 😋 and marmite cheese in my eggs.
Everyone pulls a face when I mention that cheese but its so nice!
Really not enjoying looking the way I do at the minute but I keep reminding myself it's for strength not aesthetics and won't be forever.

The leg press is often used as an ego lift, where plate after plate is stacked either side and people scream like forcing out a shit to get a few reps out. Not only do you look like and sound like a twat, anyone can move weight...⁣

On the other hand, if you can stack plates either side and move it with control without viking grunts, that's my type of leg press!⁣
⁣
I don't do leg press in every workout these days, Only on my deadlift days so i can ensure i put some weight on my quads. I usually stick to lower weight and just go for reps instead of trying to max the plates. These has done wonders for my knee health and my quads are still growing⁣

Sometimes what works for 1 person will not work for the other. Remember to take in all the knowledge you can and experiment with techniques and processes. Everyone is different and everyone responds differently to certain stimulus⁣

Lets talk about building muscle.
Whilst it is true if you build muscle you generally get stronger, muscle building and strength training are not the same thing. So if your goal is to lift big rather than look big, wait for the next post.
The most important things for muscle building are as follows:
1 - You need to overload the muscle or it won't grow, meaning you need to be lifting heavy using the most effective exercises to target that muscle. These are your big compound exercises, like the deadlift, squat, bench press etc. Muscle building only occurs if the muscle has been torn, which is only done through overloading the muscle, so choose your exercises carefully. Choose the exercises where you can work the most muscles, and lifts the heaviest weights safely, and youll make much more progress than with 'fluff exercises' that you'll see fitness influencers swear by. The 'old' and 'basic' exercises do work, theres no need to reinvent the wheel!
2 - you need to eat, a lot. In order to gain fat, you need to eat more calories than youre burning. Well muscle works the same way, you cannot build a house without enough materials, and you can't build muscle without enough protein and carbohydrates. So experiment with your eating, eat more, check if you're building muscle, and continue until you find that calorie count that works for you. Providing you're training hard (and not eating excessively over your limit) then don't worry youll build muscle with minimal fat gain.
Rep ranges should be between 6-12 for maximal progress, and you dont need ten exercises per muscle. As a good rule, pick two per muscle and do then for 4-6 reps each. Too many exercises is both time consuming and unnecessary!

Put on my big girl pants this morning and told myself to MAN THE FUCK UP! Reminding myself of why I started, reminding myself of all I have, appreciating the things I have in life.
