"Intense judgment can make parents forget why they're trying to help their baby sleep better in the first place." Sleep “training” or/and sleep consultancy are surrounded by a lot of negative press. These two terms are used interchangeably, however they have different meanings.
Due to previous research saying that sleep “training” can impact on a child’s emotional well-being and damage the bond with his parent, it remains a common belief that sleep training is a “bad thing to do” even if you, as a parents, have no choice. Unfortunately, strangers still guilt desperate mums into not intervening with their child’s sleep habit, because it is harmful!
But from the other hand, getting good night sleep is so important to the health of the infant and the parents! because:
1. our body heals itself during sleep (our immune system releases inflammation fighting with cytokines)
2. we are able to sort and process the day’s information, put it in order , and erase other unnecessary useless information from our brain.
3. Stress hormone (cortisol) level lowers during sleep
4. Sympathetic nervous system (fight or flight) relaxes
I truly believe that it is tremendously important for the whole family to have more or less consolidated sleep at night. Because the lack of sleep not just affect our health, it has a huge impact on our mental state, relationships between family members, levels of interactions between a parent and a child, low motivation levels.. So i would like to highlight for all desperate sleep-deprived MUMS and DADS out there: you are allowed to change your mind, because you will be doing it for the sake of your child and your family.
