"I'm all good man, stop scaring me now", said my friend ilhaam so carelessly, as he ate an XL Pizza and a tin of coke.
I think this was 6 months back when I saw ilhaam coughing up blood in the dormitory one fine evening. I clearly remember I asked him about his health and he didn't responded back. I remember his roommate telling me about Ilhaam's night sweats and typical fever episodes outta nowhere. I enquired more as my curiosity aroused, not like I didn't cared for him, but because I wanted to know more.
I remember his roommate telling me he saw ilhaam coughing up blood occasionally. He told me Ilhaam was missing his meals, often times eating nothing for the whole day, fried chips, I remember he remarked, "Fried chips and coke, only that he likes to eat", he had said. I remember his mother telling me ilhaam had been experiencing chest pain more often when I met her at the gala night.
I listened to his reply whilst I told him about the adverse effects of smoking and I was astounded. Astounded by his lack of appreciation. His lack of appreciating the relatively better health he still had which would've aggravated by his smoking. But Ilhaam was one of the far majority of people who never cared about their health, mental or physical. .
Two days back, I saw three patient's Chest X-ray reports after my first sip of the daily coffee. It was rather not a peculiar day, same no. of patients, revisiting for followup. As I saw a normal report in the middle, in a flash of a second, my eyes quickly hovered around the third x-ray, sort of a nystagmus. It wasn't even a full second as I remarked to my fellow, "Omg that's TeeBeee(TB), you see the inhomogenous opacities?". Within the next minute my fellow saw me dialing a number fastly on my smartphone. Ilhaam picked up the call and asked me if he's going to get fine ever again.
I told him I was so sorry that he had to experience Tuberculosis, I remember I pacified him by saying, "Life is unpredictable bro, but you don't have to worry, we're going to fight this together".
He was alleviated by knowing that a treatment is available and the regimen consists of around 6-9 months. He did however, got well again.
