I've started 🕺🕺
New training program and it's going to be A challenge but I'm missing my running so much.  2k is 2k. 
I'm doing wave training with a slight difference.  3 weeks of short distance running, climbing up to 10k and f45 classes and when hubby is home I run back to back for long distance training first thing in the morning.  But for now just getting my legs moving. 😀

Public usually have difficulty understanding autism meltdowns and temper tantrums. Whatever it is, don't judge. .
Here's a snippet on what to do (taken from https://www.autism.org.uk/about/behaviour/meltdowns)

If someone is having a meltdown, or not responding to you, don’t judge them. It can make a world of difference to someone on the autism spectrum and their carers.

Give them some time - it can take a while to recover from an information or sensory overload.

Calmly ask them (or their parent or friend) if they’re OK, but bear in mind they’ll need more time to respond than you might expect.

Make space - try to create a quiet, safe space as best you can. Ask people to move along and not to stare, turn off loud music and turn down bright lights – whatever you can think of to reduce the information overload, try it.

Look after your body and it can do great things ❤️ This is a prime example of me not looking after my body. I can’t do handstands. Ive never learnt, my body doesn’t know how to do it. But I, foolishly, decided to force my body to do it anyway. This resulted in me falling on my shoulder... it was silly.

Running a marathon.... that my body can do. I have been teaching it, training it, showing it how to recover and be strong in readiness for it. ❤️ We wouldn’t walk into an operating theatre and perform surgery without being taught how to do it. So why would we expect to be able to do handstands or lift weights or run distance without being taught.

Don’t take your body for granted. Take care of it. If it has an injury, don’t ignore it and hope it will go away. Marathon season is well underway and Sutton Runners have been busy. Dan headed north to complete Manchester, while Chris, Karen, Neil, Jonathan and Bryan braved the headwind in Brighton. 
Only five days until London and we have Graham, David W, Fiona, Alice, Lauren, Pippa and Dan (again!) representing Team Neon👊🏼
Sutton Runners will be on the course marshalling just after mile 20 and we’ll be giving out lots of free cheers! 🤗 Good luck everyone!

For many these are just #piecesofmetal. Many even ask me after a #run, is this the only thing that you get after #running so much. You can even buy it from the market, why do you want to run so much for this.

But only a #runner knows the value of these #metals, which are his #MEDALS, the endless morning wake up when everyone else around him/her sleeps but he has to wake up for his training, the many #injuries he sustains during #trainings, the #frustration when he isnt able to run due to his busy schedules, the endless #latenightparties he has to skip because of his trainings, the continuos taunts he has to listen from his family and friends around because of his priority towards his trainings, the #pain, the #agony, the #sweat, the #aches, the #tears. But what gives the runner the utmost high is wearing this metal around him on a #completionofarace. Salute to all around who achieve what they want irrespective of the hardships around.

Marathon training can make you really selfish. All of a sudden you want to sleep more than you thought was possible, rest your legs as much as you can when you’re not 🏃‍♀️, go out for long runs at the crack of dawn and wake up the entire house. Without a really strong support network, marathon training can feel really lonely. .
I am so grateful to have so many people in my life who have cheered me through the past few months. Through the tears, the injury, the ecstasy and the pain: without leaning on the people in my life I wouldn’t be getting to the start line of that marathon. .
So on today’s easy 5 miles I visualised getting to the finish line and seeing everyone who has helped me along the way. To the people who always ask me how my run went, the people who feign interest when I talk about running shoes and paces, the people who have humoured me complaining about months of DOMS, you all deserve a part of that marathon medal too. Because marathon training is a collective effort, and my heart is full to the brim because I have been fortunate enough to have so many rally around me. .

I remember hearing once that strength training is fine for runners, but it won’t bag you a fast marathon time, and to some extent I agree. However, having strong ligaments, tendons, bones and muscles might actually help you to survive the rigours of hard training and allow you to make it to race day in one piece, rather than ending up injured like sooooooo many runners do. As @marksmellybell once said “Strength is never a weakness.”

Just like cramming for a test, binge drinking water during the morning of a long run won't hydrate you properly. Aim to drink around 2-3 ml per pound of body weight at least 4 hours before you run. If you chug an entire litre of prerun water, the kidneys will flush it out, causing frequent midrun bathroom breaks. You may even dilute the body's sodium balance and increase your risk of developing hyponatremia (or water overload) during your run. Instead, keep a water bottle handy all week and drink throughout the day. Hydrating doesn't just start on the start line. ⁣

I've started 🕺🕺
New training program and it's going to be A challenge but I'm missing my running so much.  2k is 2k. 
I'm doing wave training with a slight difference.  3 weeks of short distance running, climbing up to 10k and f45 classes and when hubby is home I run back to back for long distance training first thing in the morning.  But for now just getting my legs moving. 😀

Back where I started running before the London marathon and running with a pram and Oscar.  Time to just start running and the rest will follow.  My new training program where I train short distances and f45 and when hubby is home from fifo then I pack in the km's.

Can't believe it was just a week ago that I was running Boston. This pic is from somewhere around mile 23, and embodies the exact reason I run.  Ironically enough, it's moments like this that I'm at a point I want to give up, where I think I can't possibly give any more. It's conquering those moments that fuel me to keep running.

What are the key determinants in distance events?? Distance events are heavily dependent on aerobic energy (resyntesis of ATP), therefore energy contribution from anaerobic metabolism is minimal!!
The main key factors for performance in these events are:
- VO2 max (our max oxygen carrying capacity which is trainable but unfortunately limited to our genetics)
- Fraction of VO2 max that can be sustained for the distance (usually between 80-85% of VO2 max, the lower the better...this is trainable)
- Running economy (the more economical we are the better...this factor is trainable)
- Glycogen depletion/hypoglycemia/ substrate (fuel) availability for the muscle - Dehydration
- Hyperthermia
- Central fatigue (decreased muscle activation or motor neuron excitability)
- Muscle damage

Most of these variables can be improved by training and nutrition strategies like “Periodized” nutrition = strategic combination of nutrition and exercise to optimize training adaptations and race performance. For example: workouts/ training phases with low carbs availability will target adaptations in fat metabolism and mitochondrial biogenesis (increase in number of mitochondria). Conversely, quality training sessions (high intensity, a proportion of long runs) should be performed with high carbs availability. Preparing the gut during training sessions to optimize and tolerate carbs and fluid intake is also quite beneficial.

It’s been an interesting journey this marathon training malarkey. I have made some new, totally inspiring and amazing friends, as well as getting to know different corners of my mind! In truth, I’m a wee bit sad the training is over, (mainly because that means the race itself is next 🤣) but I have learned so much, not just about running, but about the power of the mind. It’s amazing. It’s beautiful. It can be a dark and scary place for some. But we have the potential to put positivity smack bang at the centre of our lives. It’s hard graft, and definitely is a continuous practice. Life is all a continuous practice, because there’s just so much to learn, always.

Took my tired legs for a final easter run around the countryside this morning - a sun filled hilly 5k during which I switched off and listen to a great podcast (thanks @thegirlgains ) followed by another family walk, a hot cross bun & a cold glass of rose before returning to reality. .

Couldn't really have been any other way to end my recovery week really. And what a week its been - eating, drinking, laughing & running with friends & family. Normal service resumes tomorrow with @edinburghmarathonfestival just around the corner 😬🏃‍♀️

Motivation Monday🏃🏻‍♂️ Boston marathon 2019 through my eyes: Part 1/2

I remember jogging to the start, the torrential rain had ceased, and thinking wow, it felt like great running conditions....oh humidity(95%)..you sneaky little SOB. 
I make my way up into corral 1. My first Boston in 2014 I was timid, scared, wide eyed just squeezing into the corral and standing there like a deer in the headlights, letting people push past me. I was terrified. I felt like an outsider. This year was different. I politely squeezed and wiggled all the way up the very front amongst the best sub elite and elite runners in the world. For the first time in 6 Bostons, I felt like I belonged there...hell we all belong at this race no matter what corral we are in.

1️⃣. Half way through mile 1, I’m already sweating profusely. I’m checking my pace and I’m not ahead so what’s going on...I glance around and see others already sweating conforming it wasn’t just me. Then the sun came out. I literally said “ugh oh” out loud. It was going to be a challenge today. I slow my pace further, fighting the urge of letting the first 6 rolling downhill miles ruin my race. So many runners passed me who told me they follow me on IG. Some even ran with me for a bit. It was great to pass the miles!

Motivation Monday🏻‍♂️ Boston marathon 2019 through my eyes: Part 1/2 I remember jogging to the start, the torrential rain had ceased, and thinking wow, it felt like great running conditions....oh humidity(95%)..you sneaky little SOB. I make my way up into corral 1. My first Boston in 2014 I was timid, scared, wide eyed just squeezing into the corral and standing there like a deer in the headlights, letting people push past me. I was terrified. I felt like an outsider. This year was different. I politely squeezed and wiggled all the way up the very front amongst the best sub elite and elite runners in the world. For the first time in 6 Bostons, I felt like I belonged there...hell we all belong at this race no matter what corral we are in. • • 1️⃣. Half way through mile 1, I’m already sweating profusely. I’m checking my pace and I’m not ahead so what’s going on...I glance around and see others already sweating conforming it wasn’t just me. Then the sun came out. I literally said “ugh oh” out loud. It was going to be a challenge today. I slow my pace further, fighting the urge of letting the first 6 rolling downhill miles ruin my race. I have thoroughly enjoyed the last couple of weeks of the school holidays.
Chilled out mornings, laid back lunches and too much chocolate but most of all I’ve enjoyed the time spent together making memories with the boys.
However I’m looking forward tomorrow! Lowering of the noise levels, getting back into a routine and not having to feed one or both of them every half hour!! Roll on May half term!! .

Running next week’s @londonmarathon ? We ate at @leonrestaurants today and learned that they offer a free rice box the day or two before race day to help runners carb-load, so long as they bring their race number along with them. We loved the food there and we recommend you check them out if you’re in the city next weekend! They also have restaurants in Brighton and Manchester and offer the same free box the day before those city marathons as well; something to bear in mind for 2020! .

Last track session before the marathon!!! We went round a roundabout 3 times and trespassed on the track, all in all a good session!

I did however have some hip pain and doctor Gotts has diagnosed a IT band issue so this tennis ball and foam roller are now my new best friends! 
Even after 1 session of exercises tonight it feels a little better so finger crossed 🤞 it sorts itself out in 6 days!!! If anyone has any go to exercises let me know!!! #marathonrunning

MEDAL MONDAY 🏅

It can only be one this week can’t it? Last years London Marathon medal. 
Aside from the some of the medals I collected as a youth, this is the one I’m most proud of. I trained hard for 4 months. Throughout the process I found out I had a heart condition I never knew about and on the Thursday before I ended up in hospital. That day I was convinced I wouldn’t be running but I just about recovered and jogged / walked / high fived my way around London. It was an amazing experience and to top of off, we riases loads of money for Parkinson’s disease. 
On Sunday morning we go again. And I can’t wait. #unfinishedbusiness

This was me on holiday, Sunday 3rd March. With @londonmarathon next week I find myself looking back at the hard work I've put in to run a new pb, and having to accept I won't be competing 😞. I was really looking forward to seeing the fruits of my labour. Damn. I'll have to pick myself up and go again of course; that's what we do. I'll be pushing even harder 💪🏾 #letsgochamp

First time lifting heavy in over a year and I pulled a 70kg deadlift, not too shabby 🏋️‍♀️ Before I took up running, powerlifting was my favourite thing, I could lift some seriously heavy weight and even contemplated competing! I always believed that runners shouldn't lift heavy because there's such a pressure on long distance runners to be super slim but lifting heavy feels SO GOOD and can work wonders for building those running muscles so I will definitely be incorporating more heavy powerlifting sessions into my marathon training 💪
