I was pushed...off the fence...and I decided to open The Bar Method in Sugarhouse. It happened just as clearly and excitedly as a stop light turning from red to green. I was driving home from Canyon Rim Academy, hauling my 3rd grader, Grace, and my 1st grader, Kate, home from school. It was career day at school, and the girls were eagerly talking about all the things they wanted to be when they grew up. Grace wanted to be a teacher, an astronaut, a movie star. Kate wanted to be a baker, a doctor, a scientist. I remember we were stopped on 3300 South at a red light. The girls were chattering back and forth talking about the pros and the cons to all the wonderful things they could become. Lydia, my one-year old, was doing her best to get a few words in as well. Then, there was a moment of silence, and Kate said, "Mom, why didn't you ever want to be anything when you grew up?" My decision was made, and the light turned green.
I will raise my three daughters to understand and see how a woman's passion, dedication and hard work can change the world.
I zoomed home. I had a very important phone call to make...to my first employee. -Carrie - 2 hours ago
