Of the four elements, air was riddle, as far as creating a physical altar piece conveying it. When it's clean and pristine it can't be seen.
It can be felt. The birds feel it pressing against their wings as they move through it, or as it lifts them when they glide and swoop. The trees in my neighbor have been feeling it in strong gusts as it makes them bend and sway and shimmies their leaves. In my coastal community we say it's been howling.
Each of us are intimately connected to air. We take it into our bodies. We receive it then release it. It sustains us, keeps us alive. The first thing we do entering into the world is take a breath. The last thing we do when we exit is let one go.
Gabriel blows his horn, but I prefer the clarinet.
Embodying air in the dance opens the door to so many explorations: breathe, breath, sigh, cool breeze, gusty winds, hurricane, tornado, sand storm, flight, float, glide, soar, currents, inhale, exhale, blow, empty, full, smoggy, foggy, turbulence, stillness.
